Everyone knows republicans get hammered on the environment in every single election cycle...
I just thought it would be interesting to hear freeper opinions about it.
On one thread I made the following post:
Now that I think about it many surfers are environmentally friendly...if that says anything. They want to protect the ocean.
Me, I think thats a legit thing to do.
If you see what washes up on the shores of Hawaii sometimes you will think people shouldn't litter the oceans either...
If your neighbors threw all their garbage in your yard you would have a fit...
Not to mention that if you are a sportsman (hunter/fisherman etc) you want to protect what you do right? Its in the self interest of the sportsmen (and even some industries) to protect the enviroment and to manage game. Given I am no kook about it, but I think it needs to be done. Otherwise my grandbabies will never have the thrill of catching a nice fish or shooting bambi.
Its just in Hawaii the ocean is in your face, and in Nebraska and 90% of America, its not close enough to home to worry about. The average joe doesn't see it...
Anyway I just thought this is as good of time as any to hear everyone's two cents on something conservatives get hammered on all the time...
I guess my position is that hunters, fishermen, the tourism industry, and basic citizens have a vested interest in protecting the environment to some extent.
While I am no tree hugger and I think bambi taste good fried...I think there needs to be a common sense approach to protecting the environment.
What if you are a bass fisherman but you go to the lake and see all the fish floating belly up? It happened down the road from where I am... someone poured their excess chemicals in the river and viola... no more fish.
We talk about gun rights all the time here...but what about this? Doves, quail, deer, rabbits, etc are going to have to live somewhere...
Add your two cents. I think it will be interesting...
As a side note, volcanoes spew out more greenhouse gases than all of our cars and coal plants. We haven't gotten Venus' atmosphere yet, so that must mean the Earth is tougher than environmentalists think.

My position is simple: The government only needs to act when property rights clash, and where the act is either grossly negligent or malicious.
Intentionally dumping harmful (and really harmful, not just 'it upsets environmentalists' harmful) chemicals into a public waterway? Yes, the government needs to act.
Private businesses being fined for 'runoff' - which is nothing more than rain water running off their property and into rivers and streams? Assinine, and the government should get a grip on itself.
The sad fact is government is often the biggest polluter, and nothing is done, because they're the government.
Now, if you own 100 acres of pristine forest and wetlands, and you want to cut down every damn tree and pave it all with cement, that should be your right, too. The government should not be able to come in and control what you do with your property just because a few square yards have standing water once every three years and they decided to call it a 'wetland'.
I agree whole heartedly about the resilience of the environment...
BUT what IF we could use technology to burn cleaner and run cheaper than at present?
In the long term I mean...
We could come up with a whole lot more efficient ways of energy management and in the process create a whole new industry...and our national security situation could change drastically....

i say pave it all, that way we don't have to worry about those pesky trees growing up through the sidewalks and pavement. picture it, sea to shining sea of nothing but beautiful pavement. mmmm....pavement...

I admit it, I don't think about this very much! I think the earth can sort of take care of herself. I don't go around deliberately destroying anything, and I don't litter etc. But I think the earth people are mostly wackos.

I don't think you want me to get started on this subject. Our trees are dying from Bark Beetle, not so much from the drought as from environmentalism -- environmentalists (Sierra Club) don't want to stop illegal immigration into the Southwest, but they DO want to tear down all out dams so the river runners can have a free flowing river all the way to the sea... that is a warmup!
I on the other hand am concerned about my land and I would never pollute it or abuse it knowingly. My farm will be my children's someday. It is in my best interest to keep it healthy.
Exactly. Most conservatives are also conservationists, but our definition of conservation does not preclude responsible use.
Yet the watermellons (green on outside red on inside) think the only solution is to lock it up, exclude people all together (or only allow their own tree-hugger walking tours).
We see this in Alaska all the time. Down south whackos come up here and attempt to exclude all use (except their own) of vast tracts of land. Of course they all run little wilderness tour companies, charging huge fees to take people from Chicago (etc.) on enviro-tours while excluding hunters, camper, fisherman, and snowmobilers.
This is why the President is correct in kicking NASA into new directions.
The cost?
Just think of all our tax resources wasted every year defending some godless ACLU lawsuit or some inane environazi lawsuit. I shudder to think the figure could be in the billions of dollars. Billions of dollars that could be diverted to space exploration or technological advancement
The left and among them the ACLU and Environazis are the real danger to our survival on this planet.
