(Charles City - KCRG) -- Noel Miller's fiancé Casey Frederiksen is in a hospital after attempting suicide Wednesday night. Noel is the mother of murder victim Evelyn Miller.
It's been three months since the five-year-old girl's death. Investigators still have not arrested anyone in connection to the case. Thursday, Noel talked to KCRG-TV9 News about what led Casey to hurt himself.
Police drove Frederiksen to a Charles City hospital around 7:00 p.m. Noel said she was shocked when she watched Frederiksen cut his wrist. "I was just...Oh my God. I couldn't believe what he was doing. I called 911, and I was trying to get the knife away and the cops were trying to mace him. They took his arm and he slammed the arm he cut...slammed it over his head. Then, he broke his rib. And, his collar bone is all messed up," Miller said.
Miller says a number of things prompted Frederiksen to cut his wrist. "The enforcement, and [Floyd County Attorney] Marilyn Dettmer and no answers to Evelyn's death. The people are still out running in the streets. He just doesn't know what to do anymore," she said.
Diane Miller is Noel's mom. She says Frederiksen has trouble with anger sometimes, but he would never hurt anyone but himself. "He never lashes out at a person. He'll lash out at a tree, a wall, a steel post, my car. But, he's never bodily harmed nobody but himself," Diane Miller said.
Noel says she still wants to find Evelyn's killer. But, now she's worried about Casey, too. "He's doing ok. He's just a little frustrated, and doesn't know how to deal with things so he lashes out on himself," Noel Miller said.
Frederiksen is in a Mason City hospital now under observation. Noel expects him to be back at home in Charles City on Monday.

Over here too.
She has been wearing an engagement ring for a number of years, since before Gabriel (age 2) was born. Noel once said she wanted to wait to get married to save up the money to have a big wedding. Some speculate Noel would never marry anyone since that would mean the end to some of the public assistance she was receiving.
I didn't know she was on public assistance, that would be motive then to keep up that boyfriend relationship.
whew, for a moment there I thought it might be true that a suicide attempt was brownie points for the IA division of youth and family services!
Sure, sure, that's perfectly normal. Wouldn't hurt a fly.
Check your timeline. It's my understanding Noel didn't call the police to report Evey missing until almost 7:00 that day. 40 minutes of time is unaccounted for. Whatever could she have done during that time? The Cedar River was only 2-3 minutes from her apartment.
I Agree with you...I was looking at it a little different as she was soooo quick to say evelyn was abducted..but the timeline I posted wouldnt have allowed any time for a search. I know I would have been all over that apartment building knocking on doors, out on the playground BEFORE CALLING POLICE. every account I read said she had called the cops by 6:30.
FYI...police at her house with flashing lights at 10 o'clock tonight(monday). I only live a few houses away.
She should be questioned, along with him, seperately - one of them might turn on the other if they put enough pressure on them. Casey looks like the weak one here.
I always found it odd that when they were doing the "search" for Evelyn, I watched an interview of the mother and she was giving very distinct details of her "night" before Eveyln died - like "I stopped for gas" on the way to work etc etc...almost like she was trying to repeat her story - I wondered what did that have to do with her daugher's disappearance (her stopping for gas on the way to work)
Why would that enter the conversation unless she was trying to keep the story line straight.
She should be questioned, along with him, seperately
In the immediate days following Evey's disappearance, they were questioned both together and separately. By the state police, county sheriff, and FBI. Noel refused to cooperate and made the police get a search warrant to search her apartment on July 1. That doesn't seem like a response of a distraught mother trying to do everything she can to find her daughter. Instead, it looks to me like someone trying to hide something.
So many strange details of this story were missed early on because the press portrayed Noel as a grieving mother and didn't report anything to the contrary. I think that's why, when looking at the situation as a whole, things don't make sense when only media reports are looked at. People who only follow the media reports on the internet are only getting the media spin. You don't see the big picture of what's going on. I wonder if media outlets will go back to their archive videos and old notes to try to piece together what they missed.
ccwoman...any word on why the police were at their home? I haven't heard anything myself, but I also don't live as close as you do and haven't been out today.
I havent heard why they were there last night either. I read on KCRG that Noel said the police were there yesterday afternoon because neighbors had reported that there were children alone in house.
AS for Noel demanding a search warrent to enter her apartment when evie was missing: I too had heard that from a VERY reliable source and that says guilt immediatly for me. If my child was missing the police could go through my house or anything else they wanted!!! I would give them any sample they wanted of my blood, spit, toenails anything!! Just find my kid!!!
Any idea as to why Casey is never interviewed on televison?
I have only heard it twice but I was told that Noel was
telling police to search Rotary Park (where she was found) on the second day of the search. Rotary Park is hard to find and very seldom used.
I never knew this! Wow, talk about a red flag!
I was just shocked to recently learn she had Evelyn cremated - I know people have different ideas about cremeation/burial - but if it was your little daughter murdered - why would you do that - especially if some evidence may be found out later etc.
that really shocked me - having her 5 yr old baby girl cremated.
This is one cold woman who I think has something to hide.

I think either he's not as comfortable in the spotlight as Noel is or she won't let him. Until recently, the media only seemed interested in interviewing Noel, the "grieving mother." They had no interest in Casey since he was eliminated as a suspect due to passing a polygraph very early on.
My thoughts always turn back to Patrie and Slick. I've heard some pretty uncomplimentary things about them and about some possible connection between them and Noel. I also heard that Noel and Slick specifically were pretty "close friends." **wink wink** Patrie and Slick have been able to keep a low profile recently, with Casey and Noel running around acting like crazy people. But I'm not willing to count them out of the equation yet. I know if I killed a little kid in a small town, I'd try to keep as much attention away from me as possible. Patrie has a criminal record and Evey was found in water, so maybe any evidence was washed away. Maybe this was a case where Patrie learned how to be a better criminal in prison? I hear he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, though, so I can't imagine him pulling this off himself. Of course, this is all just speculation and I could be completely off base. I just have a feeling that when the real, full story comes out about what happened to Evelyn, people will be shaking their heads and wondering how this could have happened in a small town.
I agree, but I think alot of people are going with their gut on this one..... the people in those small towns have the right idea about not welcoming Noel and Casey - they probably know alot more about this case & characters than those of us following it in the media.
I still have never been able to understand what went on that night with those two men showing up with beer, Evelyn opens the door - did Casey ever wake up? How did the police know they were there that night? - did they admit it ?

SUNNYUSA
Randy Patrie and Dan Slick were the ones to tell police that they were there that night otherwise no one would have known.

I am one of those local people, and I'm not convinced that Slick and Patrie are 100% innocent in all this. They, like Casey and Noel, are not exactly upstanding citizens. They're just better at keeping out of the media right now.
Maybe, maybe not.
Someone might have seen them. It's not as if Noel and Casey lived in isolation at the end of a long dirt road.
