Arnold: I'd 'kill' anyone who took daughter for abortion
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | September 22, 2005

Addressing a California ballot initiative, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said he would "kill" anyone who took one of his daughters to have an abortion without notifying him.

"I have a daughter," Schwarzenegger said in an interview with the Sacramento Bee. "I wouldn't want to have someone take my daughter to a hospital for an abortion or something and not tell me. I would kill him if they do that."

The Republican governor, who has two teenage daughters and two preteen sons, was responding Tuesday to Proposition 73, an initiative that would make most abortions for minors illegal without prior notification of the girls' parents or guardians.

Schwarzenegger, a supporter of abortion rights, clarified that he did not literally mean he would kill someone, but he left no doubt as to how strongly he feels about the issue.

"It will be the ultimate of being outraged about it and angry about it," he told the Sacramento paper.

"They call me when my daughter falls off the jungle gym in the school and they say, 'What do you want us to use? Can we put a Band-Aid on it? Do you want to come in? She's crying a little bit.'

"They call us about everything. I don't want them in that particular incident not to call us."

If one of his daughters sought an abortion on her own, he said, "then I would deal with that also."

Specifically, the initiative would make an abortion provider subject to civil penalties for performing an abortion on a minor without notification of a parent at least 48 hours in advance.

A pregnant girl, however, would have the right to petition a juvenile court judge to waive the notification requirement.

Schwarzenegger said he's not sure whether he'll endorse the measure on the special election ballot Nov. 8, explaining he already is pushing four initiatives and may not want to divert attention from those.

Backers of the parental notification measure argue that the measure would protect a fundamental parental right.

"In California, a young girl under the age of 18 can't get a flu shot or an aspirin from the school nurse without a parent being notified," Paul Laubacher, a Sacramento nurse and the official ballot proponent of the Proposition 73 initiative, told the Bee. "But a doctor can perform an abortion without notifying a parent or guardian."

Opponents argue it could further endanger young girls who are victims of sexual abuse or family violence. The requirement to seek a judge, they say, would traumatize already confused and frightened girls.

Arnie openly supports the current abortion modes and methods.

He doesn't dispute his daughter's right to kill her child, just wants to know about it first...

I support parental notification. If Arnold is for it, kudos. Gotta win it a battle at a time.

I agree, good for him for doing that.

But a trip to the termination depot is all peace and love and happy trails.

No, he didn't say that. He said that he opposes his daughter being taken for an abortion. I suspect most parents feel the same. You can be pro-choice in the abstract but people's views change when they have to face the reality of it.

"A pregnant girl, however, would have the right to petition a juvenile court judge to waive the notification requirement."

Hmmmmmmmm.

My daughter is going to court to petition a juvenile court judge to waive the notification requirement, but I will not be aware this is happening? What.....is there a covert group that whisks her to court and I don't know about it?

Gawd these people are idiots!

There was a time when the liberals had coherent disertations, but they don't have a chance any more.

Every thing they say or do is STUCK ON STUPID!!!

Has Arnie changed his position? Does he now oppose killing babies?

His latest announcement is a small step. He still has a LONG way to go.

I agree with him. I feel the same way. If someone teacher, boyfriend, etc snuck my daughter off to have a "doctor" kill her baby then I'd pity them if I got my hands on them. I think Arnold should do what he does best and just say what he feels. Any father who is a father would feel the same way.

Well, give him credit. It's a start, and in such a pro-abortion state as CA, his words are practically revolutionary. Actually, I think there are probably a lot of anti-abortion folks in CA, but as usual, the powerful are all 100% NARAL approved.

The Governor has never hidden his views about abortion. But he's also a good father. Every parent wants to keep their child safe from danger - and if I had a daughter, I'd want to know about it so I can decide if its in her best interests. Simple... because someone who loves you is there for you no matter what. All the abortion clinic will do is take the money and never see you again. Big difference.

How many parents would want someone to subject their child to a potentially life threatening procedure without their knowledge?

none to zero, imo.

Even if the parent DID think it was okay their daughter got an abortion, wouldn't THEY want to check out the doctor and go with them?

Exactly. I'd want a chance to talk to my daughter, to tell her I'd be there for her no matter what, and you know what?

I wouldn't want her to have an abortion and I would care for the baby, help her out, if she didn't want to adopt.

I had started a post...then deleted (because I don't want to get flamed, but here goes, in short form, again.

I once had someone close to me who got pregnant. She had always wanted a baby... but her boyfriend talked her into an abortion.

What I'm saying is, I love my daughter with every fiber of my being and I would never be angry for that. I'd be sad, yes, because it would tell me that I didn't do my job in conveying to her that sex is a spiritual thing and that she should have more respect for herself than to have intercourse at 14.

But that would be my fault.

And I'd want to help her through this.

OK, I guess I'm getting old, but I swear California already passed a proposition on this subject.

Was that one of the propositions that politicians just ignore, like English only on official documents and marriage only for one man and one woman?

Firstly, I'm not "missy".

Secondly, I will always find time to oppose the killing of babies.

The measure WILL pass. Its about parents rights and even liberal parents are parents before they're liberals. Parental consent/notification measures have a 70% backing in nationwide polls.

Yes they are "Stuck on Stupid" but we are the fools for indulging them. If conservatives had been stronger before Roe Vs Wade then this wouldn't even be an issue now but conservatives still have the horrible habit of trying to be nice and split the difference rather than just calling crazy what it is. The myth of the body coat hanger has led to the deaths of millions and a general coarsening of society.
