Bush: Weak terror response led to 9/11
Sep 22, 2005, 19:00 GMT
WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- President Bush said withdrawing from Iraq would be a mistake that would embolden terrorists just as U.S. responses to other attacks led to 9/11 hijackings.
Speaking Thursday at the Pentagon after an update on the war on terror, Bush said a pullback would be seen as weakness and make the United States less safe.
'The terrorists saw our response to the hostage crisis in Iran, the bombings in the Marine barracks in Lebanon, the first World Trade Center attack, the killing of American soldiers in Somalia, the destruction of two U.S. embassies in Africa and the attack on the USS Cole,' Bush said. 'The terrorists concluded that we lacked the courage and character to defend ourselves and so they attacked us.'
It was the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, carried out by al-Qaida operatives, that led Bush to launch the war on terror with an attack on Afghanistan, where al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden had been given sanctuary. Bush links the fighting in Iraq with the war on terror.
The president said the plan is to follow a strategy of making political gains in the affected counties, while training local personnel to assume security operations.
The terrorists are right about at least half of our population. Clinton's immorality resonates with these poor people, and they worship him. This country is in a very dangerous state
he was poll driven. That's the way to be the "fun" president with interns and all. Not to worry, hilllereee won't win IF she runs. She may not even win the nomination with gore and kerry nipping at her heels. Personally, I'd like to see Leiberman throw his hat in the ring too. clintins are the biggest losers in this country.
of course clintins criticism got a lot of press. The media are hate mongers. It's OK...we know what the prez said and that's EXACTLY WHY the press didn't cover it. :) Good for Georgie...he said it like it was and it was the truth.
So with those included, Clinton actually makes Carter look like somebody who was tough and on the ball.
Dang. Were you tired and cranky when you wrote that?
I didn't know pigs wore parachutes.
Great tagline!
Wonderful post and site!
Yeah, right!
Try the exact opposite. Bush is basically giving BJ additional credibility by this "reaching out" crap...asking for his help with hurricane relief, etc.
thanx :)
(deletehillary.com will be debuting very soon.)
"He's starting to sound like the man we voted for again."
You said it perfectly. He's finally fighting back again
I'd like to hear in a National Press Conference...doubt it'll happen though.
This isn't such a strong response. Sure, he mentioned all those terrorist attacks, but didn't say anything about when they happened, who was in charge, the prior Administration, nothing. The average American being incredibly stupid, I bet most people don't make the connection to Clinton at all, and may in fact think they happened on Bush's watch.
yeah kinda an under the breath frustration comment.
The way I see it, if that's his religious philosophy, that's fine for himself. But he has an obligation to defend the Presidency. That's a power greater than himself too.
LOL! I need a bumper sticker and/or a tee shirt with that written on it Jim. I love it.
President Bush is correct in terms of Iraq and Clinton.
You don't know what a backbone is. Sitting there and typing smart alecky remarks about the Prez makes you look silly.
His determination in the face of the isolationist, Communist sympathizers, and Islamics demonstrates a backbone stronger than steel. Given the heinous attacks on him for the past 5 years+ it must be made of high grade steel.
You need to pray that nothing happens to him in the next few years.
Right. W has a spine of steel. He just doesn't communicate it. He defends America, but not himself.
