What Would Reagan Do? (Ann Coulter Laments Bush Not Being More Like The Gipper Alert)

Perhaps President Bush has inadvertently nominated a true conservative to the court with this Roberts fellow. I remain skeptical based on the following facts:

Anita Hill has not stepped forward to accuse Roberts of sexual harassment.

The Democrats did not accuse Roberts of having a secret life as a racist.

We have no idea what kind of videos he rents.

Also, I'm still steamed that Bush has now dashed my dreams of an all-black Supreme Court composed of eight more Clarence Thomases. Incidentally, eight more Clarence Thomases is the only form of human cloning I would ever support.

As liberal Hendrik Hertzberg wrote in the New Yorker, Roberts was a scared choice. After Hurricane Katrina, Bush was even more scared. So when he had to pick a chief justice, he renominated the Rorschach blot.

For Christians, it's "What Would Jesus Do?" For Republicans, it's "What Would Reagan Do?" Bush doesn't have to be Reagan; he just has to consult his WWRD bracelet. If Bush had followed the WWRD guidelines, he would have nominated Antonin Scalia for the chief justiceship.

As proof, I refer you to the evidence. When Reagan had an opening for chief justice, he nominated Associate Justice William Rehnquist. While liberals were preoccupied staging die-ins against Rehnquist and accusing him of chasing black people away from the polls with a stick – something they did not accuse Roberts of – Reagan slipped Scalia onto the court.

That's what Reaganesque presidents with a five-vote margin in the Senate typically do. Apart from toppling the Soviet Empire, Scalia remains Reagan's greatest triumph.

Scalia deserved the chief justiceship. He's the best man for the job. He has suffered lo these many years with Justices Souter, Kennedy and O'Connor. He believes in a sedentary judiciary. He's for judicial passivism. Scalia also would have been the first cigar-smoking, hot-blooded Italian chief justice, which I note the diversity crowd never mentions.

But most important, if Bush had nominated Scalia, liberals would have responded with their usual understated screams of genocide, and Bush could have nominated absolutely anyone to fill Justice O'Connor's seat. He also could have cut taxes, invaded Syria, and bombed North Korea and Cuba just for laughs. He could even have done something totally nuts, like enforce the immigration laws.

Even if Roberts turns out to be another Rehnquist (too much to hope for another Scalia!), we don't know that, Bush doesn't know that, and Bush has blown a golden opportunity to make Chuck Schumer the public face of the Democratic Party. A few weeks of Schumer as their spokesman, and normal Democrats would be clamoring for Howard Dean to get back on the stick. Teddy Kennedy would start showing up at hearings actually holding a double scotch.

Inasmuch as Bush must still choose a replacement for O'Connor, it's important to remember the "Sandra Day O'Connor bylaw" to the WWRD guidelines: Never appoint anyone like Sandra Day O'Connor to any court at any level.

Reagan had made a campaign promise to appoint a woman to the Supreme Court. He didn't say anything about appointing a ninny. But back in 1981, it was slim pickings for experienced female judges. O'Connor was a terrible mistake and will forever mar Reagan's record, but at least he did it only once.

Bush has already fulfilled all his campaign promises to liberals – and then some! He said he'd be a "compassionate conservative," which liberals interpreted to mean that he would bend to their will, enact massive spending programs, and be nice to liberals. When Bush won the election, that sealed the deal. It meant the Democrats won.

Consequently, Bush has enacted massive new spending programs, obstinately refused to deal with illegal immigration, opposed all conservative Republicans in their primary races, and invited Teddy Kennedy over for movie night. He's even sent his own father to socialize with aging porn star Bill Clinton.

(Sidebar on the aging porn star: Idiot Republicans fraternizing with the Clintons has not harmed the decadent buffoon's reputation abroad. A Chinese condom manufacturer recently named one of its condoms the "Clinton," a fitting tribute to the man who had Monica Lewinsky perform oral sex on him in the Oval Office on Easter Sunday. Their advertising slogans are: "Always wear a 'Clinton' when you're getting a 'Lewinsky'!"; "I still believe in a place called the G-spot"; "Extra-thin skinned!"; "For when you really, really want to feel her pain." Note to Bush: This isn't Walter Mondale. How about sending Pops on the road with Joey Buttafuoco?)

According to my WWRD wristwatch, it's time for Bush to invade Grenada, bomb Libya, fire the air traffic controllers, and joke about launching a first strike against the Soviet Union. In lieu of that, how about nominating a conservative to O'Connor's seat on the court? It would be a bold gesture.

Yeah, you indicated you were going elsewhere.

You were never threatened, but you did threaten ohioWfan in post 430.
And your behavior still needs modifying.

You guys fail to nderstand the concept of "supporting your party's leader."

Well some of us just don't believe in the "Eins Fuhrer, Eins Partei, Eins Reich" concept.

I think that if I were going to run for office, [I won’t because I’m not a masochist] I’d love to have Ann Coulter as my speechwriter. The same would be true if I decided to become a stand-up comic. Which is practically the same thing if you’re Ted Kennedy or Joe Biden. They qualify in both categories.

Who else but Ann could come up with supporting cloning as long as it is Justice Thomas, to seat an all black panel of Supreme Court Justices? True creativity works like this. Once it’s said, you think, I could have thought of that, but of course you didn’t, and the reason is simple. You have to be Ann Coulter to come up with this stuff.

No matter how much you might think she is wrong about Roberts, could you have thought to refer to him as the “Rorschach blot”? Only Ann Coulter has the twisted sense of humor necessary to come up with this one word’er. Ok we might have come up with “what would Reagan Do”, but how many of us “normal” people would have come up with “staging die-ins” against Rehnquist? You’ve got to admit that Ann does make you think “more differently”. Making associations that only certain mental patients are capable of doing is what I mean to say, but I meant that as a compliment to Ann. I think all really funny people are nuts. It’s about time that a true wit like Ann also turns out to be tall, beautiful, strong conservative. I’m tired of Beth Midler and Rosie O'Donnell for a while.

In spite of her good looks and wit, I think Ann is probably surfing E-Harmony.com and looking for a Scalia or Thomas in a bathrobe. I say this because she did refer to Scalia as a “hot-blooded Italian”. What else am I supposed to think? I mean I like Scalia in a manly sort of way. I’d even put up with the cigar smoke. At lest he only smokes them, which is more than we can say about Bill Clinton.

If the President wants to get on Ann’s good side, it appears he will have to eliminate the income tax, start world war III, and remove everyone from the United States who can only speak Spanish, or simply nominate the “hot-blooded Italian” as the Chief Justice.

Making publicity hound Chuck Schumer the pubic face of the Democratic Party is a really ugly idea Ann, or is that what you meant? And how can you say that Bush fulfilled all this campaign promises to liberals? We’re still the US and not the USSR? I think you’re giving Bush too much credit.

Bill Clinton as the “aging porn star”, that’s the first accurate description I’ve ever heard of him. You have to give this girl credit for holding back how she feels about people. It’s almost too complimentary actually.

But I assume that any number of pollsters already know that one way or the other, and I still see the pubs courting them so...

They are only courted by the Republicans because the party already has a ton of them. The demcrats court them too, but they court everyone - the Demcrats would like their vote but they aren't going to change the party platform to attract them.

The problem is the any realignment of the parties would almost certainly put the democrats in power for at least one election cycle, maybe two. The fiscal conservatives that vote for Democrats because of their fear of the religious right wouldn't know right away if it was safe to vote of the new GOP for a cycle or two.

The way I see it, the only solution is to move over to the Libertarian party and try to do some reshaping. This will of course put the Democrats back in power, but with the current crop of GOP politicians, I really don't see a difference.

You ARE a child of the '60's if you see drug use as innocent self expression.

Never said or thought any such thing. Strictly entertainment and recreation [horrors].

As far a legality goes, I have a very low regard for the legitimacy of the majority of what comes from the federal govenment. These people that have no regard for the Constitution are not entitled to define morality. My country is one thing, the government is something else entirely.

[Rolls eyes.]

You see no difference between Dick Cheney and Al Gore? Condi Rice and Madeline Albright? A President who isn't afraid to confront terrorism head on, versus one who favored waiting around for the next attack?

Sheesh. If I hear that "dime's worth of difference" BS one more time I think I'm going to throw up.

Your posts on the hurricane threads make more sense now, I will say that.

Actually, quite a number of people here went DU on President Bush during the primary, but since you were nowhere to be found here, you wouldn't know that. And he is far more an exemplar of Conservatism, than many of the "purists" here are.

Perhaps a better knowledge and understand is Conservatism would help you a very great deal.

Sheesh. If I hear that "dime's worth of difference" BS one more time I think I'm going to throw up.,

Look at the spending bills that have been passed over the past 5 years and tell me if you can tell if the GOP or the democrats were in charge.

Of course the GOP has a far superior foreign policy and in fact that is only reason why many are still voting for them - including me. The foreign policy isn't going to matter much though if we turn into a socialist nation in the process.

You may be a GOP cheerleader and that is fine.

RINO stands for: REPUBLICAN IN NAME ONLY. It has less than nothing whatsoever to do with being a Conservative, or not.

The GOP is and has been a "big tent" and if you don't like that, it's too bad.

A real RINO is Mayor Bloomberg; the mayor of N.Y,C.! Jim Jeffords was another; though he did jump ship.

It is therefore patently ridiculous, for anyone to call President Bush a "RINO".

"The way I see it, the only solution is to move over to the Libertarian party"

That's what my wife and I have both done as of the '04 cycle.

They have issues too re foreign affaris, etc.., buit they're orders of magnitude closer to my vieww than the pubs.

And while they can't really hope to win, at least if they start polling better maybe it'll "send a message" .

Don't be an ass - I understand Conservatism just fine. Please point to me where creating new entitlements is a conservative concept.

Maybe you could also educate me on how a president refusing to fulfill his constitutional responsibilities to secure the border is a conservative concept as well.

While you're at it, educate me on how CFR is a conservative concept.

In light of your recognition of this fact, I hope you will cease spouting the type of "there's no difference" rhetoric that prompted me to respond to you.

That'd be nice.

We all know what RINO means. How you can call Bloomberg a RINO and not Bush is beyond me. I guess I was unaware that creating new entitlements was in the GOP party platform.

I've pointed out repeatedly that while there is a difference, the difference is small enough that doesn't make much difference.

Both parties are destroying the Republic - it's just with the GOP, it will be a little slower death.

You read the posts and I told Ohio I was a gal, so don't act naive about it.

See this?

To: ohioWfan; Darksheare; whizeup

I can understand why whizeup mentioned the 'I am woman' thing---because ohioWfan did keep referring to her as a young man. (For some reason I thought so too, BTW.) So we now know she's not a boy, not a feminist and likes to use the juvenile spelling of the word YOU. We also know that she has become extremely rude and crude and ever so slightly threatening. (reference the meeting ohioWfan in person)

Perhaps it can be chalked up to ignorance of Forum Decorum at this point. We will see. :o)
