They are only courted by the Republicans because the party already has a ton of them. The demcrats court them too, but they court everyone - the Demcrats would like their vote but they aren't going to change the party platform to attract them.
The problem is the any realignment of the parties would almost certainly put the democrats in power for at least one election cycle, maybe two. The fiscal conservatives that vote for Democrats because of their fear of the religious right wouldn't know right away if it was safe to vote of the new GOP for a cycle or two.
The way I see it, the only solution is to move over to the Libertarian party and try to do some reshaping. This will of course put the Democrats back in power, but with the current crop of GOP politicians, I really don't see a difference.
[Rolls eyes.]
You see no difference between Dick Cheney and Al Gore? Condi Rice and Madeline Albright? A President who isn't afraid to confront terrorism head on, versus one who favored waiting around for the next attack?
Sheesh. If I hear that "dime's worth of difference" BS one more time I think I'm going to throw up.
Your posts on the hurricane threads make more sense now, I will say that.

That's what my wife and I have both done as of the '04 cycle.
They have issues too re foreign affaris, etc.., buit they're orders of magnitude closer to my vieww than the pubs.
And while they can't really hope to win, at least if they start polling better maybe it'll "send a message" .
One of the stated goals of FR, is to remove from office, as many Dems as is possible and replacing them with REPUBLICANS. Removing Republicans, increasing the Dems' numbers in both Houses and even place one in the White House, by going fringe, is the antithesis to FR's stated goals!
