Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast

Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu

A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.

Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

Watching this live on Fox and hearing Shep say "We're going to take a break and come back for this landing" makes me think, man, there's too much on TV these days, I sure hope we won't watch a horrible thing in a little bit here.

Uhm, so that IF they crash, there's less of a fire? They were fueled up for a long trip.

Less weight is better in an emergency landing.

Less fire if it comes down too hard.

I'm not an expert .. but I think just incase they have to make a crash landing .. that the plane won't explode as bad with a full tank ... this plane was traveling from CA to NY.

I would guess to decrease flammability. Maybe I'm wrong.

May God steady the minds and hands of the pilots on this plane.

Amen!

... a lot of sparks shortly

NOT. KABC interviewing knowledgeable party who says "no fuel dump capability on the A320" (how flippin' STOOPID izzat?!) so they'll have to fly in circles for a few hours until they burn off enough fuel to make the landing attempt.

"CNN is back covering New Orleans....sheesh."

Once CNN figures out how to blame Bush, they will cut back to the plane.

It'll evaporate before it hits the ground, mostly.

They'd rather have 1 unit of flammable fuel than 10 units when they scrape across the tarmac.

Thanks, Just heard them say they might try to land at LAX which is about 2 miles from me. What on earth is a ''safe foamy landing''?!!
