Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast

Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu

A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.

Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

Guess what? Lots of parts on Boeing planes are made by the french.

Planes are planes, irrational hatred of a plane because of the french is just stupid.

FNC said no one seems to need any medical assistance. (They may need laundry service though.)

I can't see what's going on behind the ladder, but is it a reasonable assumption that they've placed a hydraulic jack under the nose, or some cinder blocks, or something in case the gear finally decides to snap off after all?

Absolutely picture-perfect landing. His touch on the nose was so light that it started on the back tire first then went onto the front a little later. Unreal.

I'd buy that captain a beer (after drinking about a 6 pack myself, if I had been a passenger LOL) .

Airbuses biggest problem is that there machines are like central GoV. Bigger and less control to the people.

Other wise their planes seem sound, I think their business model blows, but hey, they are getting plenty of gov support.

As long as I dont have to rely on french pilots I think its safe to fly Airbus ;)

I think they knew that much. They've been to the brink and back. Wow. Karl, this wore me out. I was so darn worried and scared for them, but as the pilot approached, I just knew he's make a safe and perfect landing.

Good observation. That would seem to be a wise thing to do. Now, I'm wondering just HOW this happened.
