Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast
Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu
A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

No first class on Jet Blue. Rich folk fly AA and UA between LA and NY.

Hmmm...could be some folks from Morning Star of the Valley on that plane. That's our sister church in Studio City.

I gained an appreciation for pilots and their experience/knowledge last week on another thread...I hadn't realized how important a seasoned pilot was until then.

If 100,000 flights land safely and uneventfully before mine, I'll be worried about the law of averages catching up with me. I'd feel better if an incident of some sort happened on the flight just before mine. Then I'd be okay. I'm trying to remember who it was who recommended bringing a bomb onboard your flight to improve the chances of a safe flight . . . . the thinking being that the odds of there being one bomb on board weren't all that low (lowering the chances of a safe flight), but the odds of there being two bombs onboard were really, really low. Hence, better odds.
Happy flying, everybody!

Okay that still meets the bad rebuild scenario, you might get one cycle or several, the failure could occur on takeoff or landing.

what a media circus.
this type of incident has happened before and things could be far worse if rear gear didn't deploy properly.
that's not to say this will be easy as this is dangerous but likely not going to be as bad as things sound if the pilot keeps his flare steady and eases it down.
gear may shear but these pilots know what they are doing.
(i think i know a bit a a former fte for macdac on the md11)
pray for the best and hope the crew is cool as i bet they are.
the media circus is pathetic so i will watch from free republic
