Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)

A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.

Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

8 minutes as of now, per chopper pilot, the aircraft is going to be switching freqs, clear for 25L pilot wants a long approach.

Pilot wants a 15 mile final.

No, I don't think they serve John Wayne/SNA. They do go to Burbank, and have lots of flights in Long Beach, and some at Ontario.

The runway at SNA is short, I am amazed when Aloha flies 737-700's out of there to HNL, and with the noise restriction takeoff.

And they are not going straight down at high speed. The experts on TV are saying that this is "low risk". I know me ... this would assure me but only a little.

sit in the back. I think survival rates during crashes are highest back there. you just have to put up with the lavatories.

I've changed my mind, though. If 100,000 flights land safely and uneventfully before mine, I'll be worried about the law of averages catching up with me. I'd feel better if an incident of some sort happened on the flight just before mine. Then I'd be okay.
