Damn... And it's only half way to it's targets.
Is there a category 6?

Nope. Cat 5 is as high as it gets. Those are pretty rare.

Don't the generally pick up speed over the ocean then slow down as it gets closer to shore?

Is there a category 6? Yes, we call it Al Gore. But seriously, this is one scary situation, good luck to all those on the gulf coast. What's the latest info on where it may hit landfall?

We'll see how much better Texas prepares/responds than LA.

I thought the same.
Really, how could it not be a MONSTER.
It has nothing between it and Texas but warm ocean water and no land to break it up.
This is gonna be a bad one. The souls in TX are taking it seriously...hope all make it out okay.

Don't the generally pick up speed over the ocean then slow down as it gets closer to shore?Yes, as the outer arms hit land, it will slow back down ,just as Katrina did. Still, even a cat 3 at landfall will kick up a devistating surge. And it will be cat 5 over any oil rigs.

I think so, but this thing is a Cat 5 and it's still a long way from shore.
That means it is still not done warming up and sucking up moisture.
This thing is a MONSTER.
