If your area is hit hard, cell phones will be useless. Even if you leave the area since it appears the calls are routed to non-existant towers. For Katrina, my cell phone was worthless weight and false hopes.

I'm with you...not leaving...I was a little kid during Carla...had no flooding, kept electricity...during Alicia...no flooding, kept electricity...and that house was poorly built...compared to what I live in today...I understand it's going to be bigger and stronger...Dan Meador over at KHOU says lots of rain and chance of fallen trees but he's not even recommending leaving in non-surge areas...

If I lived on the coast or in some place like Clear Lake, Friendswood...I'd be out of there...this location does not warrant it...

They sure did float pretty good huh? ;) I do know that they are very comfortable to sleep on but you need to put a thick blanket on them to keep from freezing to death. Speaking from experience here.

Where are you? We just talked to FIL; he's leaving in the morning to go to his "camp" up around Toledo Bend Lake. He's in Lake Charles. He's worried about the NE quadrant effect as well.

They're going either to Boerne, where my sister's in-laws live, or to Moulton, where we have some land.

We're likely headed for Brenham if need be.

I live in Lake Charles, LA, which is on I-10 about 33 miles from the Texas border. I think I will stay and just install a sign in the front yard that says....
"If you Loot, I shoot"

Hell, I didn't even take off work. I had Renfest rehearsal on Sunday and was there with bells on! (But not the tiara. That would have been a little much.)

If you are prepared with food and water, batteries, and don't live in a mobile home or a flood prone area, I'd stay put. Do you have a car? Is it filled with gas? Do you have any health issues that could cause a problem with no electricity for a week or so? Do you have any place to go inland?

:) You're a doll. I never cared about hurricanes 'til we moved here in '99.

I find it hard to believe these poor people here from N.O., are facing the same thing again. I think I'd be getting paranoid about now.

Actually, I am feeling a little paranoid myself. My husband's boss sent us on an all-expense-paid 6-day trip to Walt Disney World, from which we returned on Sunday. However, before we left, I didn't feel right about having a good time since so many people were suffering around me after Katrina. Guess I'm making up now for all the fun we had last week... =/

Nice to meetcha!

Actually, we're a tad southwest of it - Wilcrest and Briar Forest is the closest big intersection to us. We're in a high-standing area, so we're more worried about trees and debris coming through our big windows than water getting in.

Exactly!

I gave Diva Betsy Ross and onyx a list of things to do, including get cash NOW, charge your cell phones and stuff I don't even remember.

Maybe they can help out!
