Thirty-six hours after ex-president Bill Clinton bashed and trashed his son on everything from his handling of the Hurricane Katrina crisis to the Iraq war, former president George H.W. Bush says he still likes Clinton.
Appearing during commercial breaks on ABC's "Monday Night Football," the president's father was asked how he and Clinton managed to get along.
"I like him," Bush 41 said, despite the verbal thrashing Clinton administered to his son on ABC's "This Week" the day before.
Given two more opportunities to comment on his relationship with Clinton, Bush Sr. declined to say a single negative word about his successor.
Mr. Clinton, on the other hand, demonstrated no such graciousness when asked on Sunday about the Bush administration's response to Hurricane Katrina.
"You can't have an emergency plan that works if it only affects middle class people and up," Clinton told ABC's "This Week."
He said the allegedly slow federal response disproportionately affected African Americans and was caused by the Bush tax cuts.
"This is a matter of public policy," Clinton told his former communications director, George Stephanopoulos. "And whether it's race-based or not, if you give your tax cuts to the rich and hope everything works out all right, poverty goes up and it disproportionately affects black and brown people."
Agreed. This makes me sick.
They don't have to make kind and gratuitous remarks about the klintoon. Just don't say anything at all.
You may well be right, but this whole deal is getting strange.
Meanwhile Babs is sharpening her nails awaiting that first confrontation opportunity!
The Christian reaching his hand to the sinner, loving the sinner and hating the sin. They realize what a pathetic creature Clinton, and a sad lonely one. The Bushes are living the brotherly love they so often "preach" about.
It isn't a tradition in this country (so far as I know) to show respect for people who've financed their campaigns with communist Chinese cash, overseen the pilfering of our nuclear laboratories, and evidently preserved a terrorist network that killed 3,000 Americans.
Bush and Billy Boy obviously know things that keep them cozy. The rest of us don't have that insipid luxury.
I agree entirely with you, wagglebee. Dubya was raised in a family with class, BJC obviously wasn't. It shows. The same goes for Jimmy Carter.
Yeah well I wonder what Mrs. 41 thinks. Take a guess.
You're talking about a guy that flew a torpedo bomber in WWII, was shot down into the ocean and survived.
I sorry,I disagree.It proves he's an ass.
I don't.
What a degenerate morality; what an enfeebled outlook it must be to give the destruction of your country the benefit of divine sanction.
"This simply proves that GHWB has class and respect for the presidency, something the left will never be capable of."
Yes. And people who call President "rapists" or "murderers" etc. aren't helping their side anyway. They mainly hurt the country and make their side look bad.
President Bush41 is doing the right thing.
Kinda makes one wonder about Mena.
exit82: I still loathe Clinton.
IMO, the Bush family are being blackmailed by the clintons because of information contained in the stolen FBI files. JMO, of course.
Isn't it true that George and Barbara refused to visit the WH for a long time after Clinton was elected? On top of that, I remember reading how much animosity GWB had for Clinton because of the way he treated his father during their campaign. Now I agree, the Bush family has an enormous amount of class and the elder especially is not known for his cutting his enemies off at the knees. But the current President, like his mother, is fiercely loyal.
In some ways I think most of the gestures of inclusion have been about class and smart politics in a divided nation. But I'm also beginning to wonder if they are bound together by something else, something I could see the President doing only for his father.
Good point. Maybe she can ask 41 what his infatuation with Slick is all about.
LOL! When you figure it out, lemme know, K?
Right now, the only things I can come up with would be senility, idiocy or blackmail. (:
