~ MILITARY SHORT SPEAK ~ Military Rank - Part 2 Officers Ranks |
|
Today we're taking a side trip in the Short Speak journey to learn more about the different military ranks. Hopefully you're not as confused about it as I am! |
Officer ranks in the United States military consist of commissioned officers and warrant officers. The commissioned ranks are the highest in the military. These officers hold presidential commissions and are confirmed at their ranks by the Senate. Army, Air Force and Marine Corps officers are called company grade officers in the pay grades of O-1 to O-3, field grade officers in pay grades O-4 to O-6 and general officers in pay grades O-7 and higher. The equivalent officer groupings in the Navy are called junior grade, mid-grade and flag. Warrant officers hold warrants from their service secretary and are specialists and experts in certain military technologies or capabilities. The lowest ranking warrant officers serve under a warrant, but they receive commissions from the president upon promotion to chief warrant officer 2. These commissioned warrant officers are direct representatives of the president of the United States. They derive their authority from the same source as commissioned officers but remain specialists, in contrast to commissioned officers, who are generalists. There are no warrant officers in the Air Force. |
Naval officers wear distinctively different rank devices depending upon the uniform they're wearing. The three basic uniforms and rank devices used are: khakis, collar insignia pins; whites, stripes on shoulder boards; and blues, stripes sewn on the lower coat sleeves.

A note to my heroes
Regardless of what rank you are; whether enlisted or officer; Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine or Coast Guardsman; Hear this: I appreciate you and everything you have done for me from the bottom of my heart. You make me SO proud to be an American. God bless you all! |
If you have a suggestion for a Field Trip - maybe a place where YOU have been stationed and would like to re-visit - PLEASE Freepmail it to starcmc!! Thanks!
Please remember: the Canteen is a place to honor and entertain our troops.
As such we attempt to keep it MOSTLY apolitical.
Thanks for playing and have a nice day! LOL!!!

Finished Sunday, made it to 1000 on Saturday, and fading fast. Sounds like me...I made it to 650 on Saturday, then skipped to 1400, dropped off after about 1650, and only glanced at 2000...
There's just too much going on anymore!! 2 more showings on Sunday, no word yet...except that folks are finding out that houses are getting expensive in our area.

Remember it's always darkest before it turns completly black.
Unless you turn on the light! Don't forget Wile E. Coyote's Corollary:

GM, beachn! SMOOCH!
fwiw, the CURRENT W5 rank insignia has changed 4-5 times in the relatively brief period since it was introduced.
at FIRST (right before i retired) there was NO INSIGNIA - W5 was simply a PAYGRADE.
then for (a little while) there was a SILVER bar with 5 black spots.
THEN a solid BLACK BAR, trimmed with silver edging,
THEN a SOLID SILVER BAR with 5 little outlines of spots.
and MAYBE some OTHER insignia, as well?????
can you say, "we can't make up our minds, children???" "SURE, you can!".
