Trying to fend off increasingly tough competition from other states and foreign countries, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to announce a plan soon to grant tax breaks for film companies to help them meet production expenses and stay in California.

The taxpayers of California must be thrilled to pay more so the "film companies" can have a tax break. I suspect that through creative accounting the companies and performers aren't paying nearly what they should now.
Arnold can give them all the tax breaks he wants but we still will not see these over priced no talent poor excuse for movies. No matter how many times they keep rehasing the same old movies over and over and over.
Well, I'm sure businesses being blocked while shooting is taking place is kept to a minimum.
How about a little union busting while we're at it? (Not that I really care much about the fate of Hollywood)
As I understand it, movie companies like to film in Canada, due to the relative weakness of the Canadian dollar. Toronto has been used in a number of films to simulate American cities.
No offense to our Canadian bretheren, but definitely Ontario and the entertainment industry seem ideally matched.

Filming in California helps generate the Californian economy. In addition, jobs stemming from the production
are extensive.
That is the worst idea. The less tax the libs pay the more they will push for tax payers to pay for new things. libs shoud be paying more because they are the ones that are willing to give our money away.
Regarding union busting, are you referring to the Screen Actors Guild?
I agree with you... he can do what ever he wants with the Holly wood crowd... I have given up on the movies a long time ago... how about the so called movie stars coughing up some dough, and helping to pay for stage hands and etc...
That's why Governor Schwarzenegger (CA.) and Governor Kulongoski (OR.) are both making it financially attractive
to film in California and Oregon as opposed to going to foreign countries.
Please, we really don't want them in Oregon.
No, you want to keep filmmakers in California because it generates the economy. Also, many jobs are formed stemming from the filming and production.
Joanne; I'm trying to introduce a culture change in Hollywood. We need more Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood, Chuck Norris, "The Rock," and Tom Selleck types (all right-wingers).
The definition of the DNC way.
Update (FR thread):
Runaway Film Bill Hits Snag - State lawmakers balk ...
Los Angeles Times, September 8, 2005:
SACRAMENTO Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's script to stem runaway film production in California with as much as $100 million in annual tax breaks is getting panned at the Capitol. The bill by Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez (D-Los Angeles), which the governor made a top priority, was on the legislative fast track until Schwarzenegger's fellow Republicans balked, arguing that it amounted to a giveaway for Hollywood. Now, the bill can't even get a hearing.
With the scheduled legislative recess looming late today, Schwarzenegger and Nuñez are considering a switch in tactics. Nuñez said he hoped to line up verbal commitments from legislative leaders to put the proposed movie tax credits into the state budget for the spending year that begins in July.
I'm sure that many Oregonians would love having films shot in Oregon. "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest," "The Ring," and "Animal House" were filmed in Oregon.
