Members of a secret Pentagon intelligence unit known as Able Danger warned top military generals that it had uncovered information of increased al Qaeda "activity" in Aden harbor less than three weeks before the attack on the USS Cole, The Post has learned.
In the latest explosive revelation in the Able Danger saga, two former members of the data-mining team are expected to testify to the Senate Judiciary Committee next week that they uncovered alarming terrorist activity and associations in Aden weeks before the Oct. 12, 2000, suicide bombing of the U.S. warship that killed 17 sailors.

On Wednesday, former members of the Sept. 11 commission said they weren't buying the story that the Able Danger group identified the hijackers so early.
"Bluntly, it just didn't happen and that's the conclusion of all 10 of us," said Sept. 11 commissioner Slade Gorton, a former Republican senator from Washington state.
I remember the first news of the USS Cole said that it was a harbor craft that had come alongside the ship and blown up.
Only later, after the story had died down, did it come out that the bomb was on a Z-boat, that it was approaching at a high rate of speed, that the gunner on the deck had requested permission to fire warning shots, and that he had been commanded to stand down.
I still think that Clinton/Gore wanted this incident to cause people to rally around Gore for the 2000 election, but it didn't break the way they expected.

I disagree. I think they just wanted to downplay the event, like every terrorist strike before the Cole.
The media cooperated and made it seem like a random act of terrorism by some crazy individuals rather than a coordinated attack by the same group responsible for multiple attacks on US interests in the past.
And will the public ever hear this on television?
Fox News will, I think. As for the old media, I don't care, personally. If they want to save themselves in join in, fine. If they don't, we don't need them. Just look at the NOLA jabs on Bush, a complete flop. The New Media is more powerful than ever, just as Drudge predicted way back when: "...the din of small voices..."

There was a great delay in the US getting to the bottom of the who of the Cole Bombing. However, I believe it was the usual shhhhhhhhh, don't rock the boat....the election is too close at hand. And everyone in the Dem camp put on their rose colored glasses, smiled and screamed "4 More years of peace and prosperity." There was no peace and we were prosperous because the computer had come of age and we were working our butts off.
Given enough time and evidence, this story could sink Sen Clinton's ambitions in 2008....especially if it gets little notice now, it might get lots of notice in 2008.
