MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- While unaware he was being recorded at a civic meeting, Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright offered a crime solution that has stunned the city of Montgomery and the nation.
"What we need to do... Is there any media? Chief, can I say this? I've said it one time…Get a gun and teach our folks how to use them and shoot' em," Bright said. "Now, I'm telling you, that's what we need to do."
Bright was speaking on the issues of having an understaffed police force, clogged courts and a vast majority of crime in Montgomery committed by the same relatively small number of people over and over again.
"That's the only thing that we can really tell our folks to do at this point in time," Bright said. "If there's anything else that you know that the chief and I can do to keep this crime down, keep these guys from stealing... let me know."
The Montgomery Police Department was asked what their response was to the mayor's statements.
"The mayor made some good points. If a person chooses to own a handgun, then we think it is important they know how to use that handgun and they know when the law allows them to use it," said Lt. Huey Thornton of the Montgomery Police Department.
So far, Bright has not commented on his statements.

I live in a rural neighborhood, an old neighborhood. Ask any citizen who is committing the crimes, The burglaries, selling dope. We all know their names, who they are. The police know too. They arrest them and the slick lawyers get them turned loose before the cop finishes the paperwork, Its always the same ones, or they belong to the same family. Although we dont have many crimes here it runs in spurts.
Sooner or later they rob the wrong person and are found in the swamp,or they commit a crime so blatant even their lawyers cant get them off. That usually slows them down until their younger brothers grow up enough to start the cycle again or they are released. These people know who they can get away with robbing and who is armed and will shoot. The meek wont inherit the earth, they will be ground into it.
I wish he were my mayor.

I lived just outside Montgomery for a year (this was almost 20 years ago). I didn't think much of the place. I sure sounds like the mayor they have now should be teaching other mayors common sense.
Sounds like a bright idea to me.......
Especially the Mayor who NOLA, who put his family first on a private jet out of harms way.
Ragin-Nagin could have prevented the flooding with he money set aside(federal) to upgrade the levees, dams and waterpumps to sustain Cat-5 hurricanes&surges. He was too, busy fronting and not looking out for the welfare/safety of his constituients.

I think what you are referring to is district disaster defense forces. They are homongenous in cleaning up, resatabilizing their affected areas and preventing any anarchy, crime or lawless actions.
They will not allow the dregs of society following a catastrophic disaster, to wreak havoc on innocent citizens in their respective areas(districts)

Well i live in Texas.I don't know the laws here compared to other states but a lot of laws are very different..Also the officer that trained me said that you must fire a warning shot before shooting the thug that comes in contact with you..So if the police officer comes to investigate the shooting then he will put that in his report..he also may take the gun from you and fire the shot himself if you forgot to do that..LOL!so always shoot a warning shot in the wall or ceiling or some place that can be seen..I know all of this is not full prof but it helps and that would not keep me from shooting to kill...
Oh and I forgot to mention I do have a monitored alarm system in my house..And please put your guns out of the reach of little children..and unloaded.For those that do not know how to use a gun please before buying one take a lessons in shooting.And if you are afraid of guns do not get one..You could end up shooting a loved one or yourself..
