Col. Hunt on O'Reilly Reports "out of state" gangs invaded New Orleans

Posted on 09/16/2005 5:22:01 PM PDT by gusopol3

Hunt says well-organized gangs moved in, looted banks, jewelry stores. "It was as bad as the early days in Bagdad."

Then I wonder what after 10 days of no food, no lights, no water, no toilets, they managed to cart 'back home'. I hope nothing, and if the story is true, I hope they are still stuck there with their useless, shorted-out TV's and stereo equipment.

Didn't N.O. have shops with steel grates which one rolls down in front of the shop and then locks to prevent them from being looted as other cities have installed?

Im happy to see a lot of people on the post are not buying this "uncle remus, blue bird on my shoulder", story.

Wait, other MSM are going to jump on this fabricated story and run with it. Maybe to lesson the fears other cities have of these thugs moving in there.

Letting investors and industries feel at ease, that local people would not rob banks or jewelry stores. they were only after food, pampers and water. in fact the locals didn't even rob gun stores. It was the evil outsiders.

Bull F-ing crap. Crime in NO was higher per capita than in any other City in the US.

So Blanco kept the National Guard and FEMA out of N.O. so that for 5 days 3000 Dem'rats could pillage the place. I guess you could call it a Dem'rat fund raiser.

"what BS. Most roads to NO were destroyed, especially those from the north and east."

THANK YOU!

What, nobody wants to blame the poor young black men of poor old flooded N'Orleans?

I'm getting a little sick of the pity party.

I feel bad for the poor people who were ABANDONED TO DIE by their USELESS elected officials. Blood is on the hands of Nagin, Blanco and the criminal element of that city, oh yes and the derilect police.

So, they should stop blaming Bush, blaming FEMA, and blaming purely hypothetical criminals who likely do not even exist.

Does anyone really think that if this HAD happened there wouldn't be video footage of it?

"....complete with communication devices."

That worked? Even though the cops devices didn't work and even the National Guard devices didn't work?

And this is the first we're hearing of it?

"Crime in NO was higher per capita than in any other City in the US."

It's the perfect place for crime, filled with drunken tourists, drunken locals, and corrupt cops, what could be better?

When we went to visit there I actually left all my good jewelry home. I can't imagine where else in the US I'd've felt that way about, I grew up in big, bad, NYC!

The gangs could have moved in ahead of time. Friday midday it was obvious to most people except Blanco, Nagin, and the energy markets that the storm was heading for New Orleans.

If you were out of state gangs you would want to move people in ahead of time. Nagin had no plan. He didn't even have a plan to separate the criminal sex offenders and homeless that came into the superdome first from the rest of the population of women and children.

Very very intelligent! With a cat 5 hurricane looming in and you tell me they would risk their lives in small boats and even approaching in SUV's!??! Plueeease give me a break!! Just pure insanity and tin-foil hats!!!

"Some" proof = the booty being pawned in the cities Colonel Hunt said the gangs came from: Miami, Dallas and Memphis.

Why Miami? We had 4 major hurricanes here in Florida last year! We are pretty familiar with the danger of hurricane winds!! We did NOT have any looting of gangs from Miami!!
Even gangs know the danger from hurricane wind forces!!!
Makes absolutely no sense!??!

Most "steel grates" in front of stores can easily be pulled off with any type of vehicle. Most could even be ripped off with nothing more than man power.

Sure, but there is no evidence to state Col. Hunt's report is not true. Organized crime is by definition... Organized.

The Louisiana State Police scanners had officers pulling over stolen cars (actually lots of brand new Caddies) laden with looters and their booty all over LA on Wed. and Thurs. nights.

I posted earlier that the media was off chasing "Bush Bushing Blanco" and wouldn't stick their head into a gun fight. I don't know if the report stated by Col. Hunt is true, but there is no evidence to the contrary.

Fifteen or twenty years ago, (I don't remember now), I lived in western Kentucky and we had a toxic train car leak from a train derailment. There were about 30,000 people in the county that evacuated in approx. 7 hours without any evacuation plan. Not only did we not have a plan, but we all hated the obnoxious local fire chief. However, we all still organized and evacuated in just a few hours. That includes the patients from the local hospital and the residents from the area rest homes. We used the local school buses and for communication... (get ready, this will shock you), we used smoke signals, (Just Kidding!). We used Citizen Band radios. Thats right, just plain old CB radios. They work in your car and work well. Some of us had CBs with AM and side band and some of us had 200 to 500 watt linear amps, (not legal), to give a little boost.some of us still have them

Now, if a bunch of rotten tooth, illiterate hillbillies, (I can say that, because I am one), can organize an evacuation with personal communication, then what prevents "organize" crime gangs from doing the same?

This is a fair question and I have no dog in this hunt. Just tired of seeing the "piling on" that Col. Hunt can't be right.

Nor did he give real evidence about "outside gangs" coming in to make it true. bunch of hear say from troopers/sheriffs he may or may not have interviewed.

Organized gangs existed in NO and were good friends of many local police. These are the guys robbing/looting the area.

It really makes me question his reportings from Iraq now and I always looked forward to his reports.
I think he "sexed up his report" to use a BBC phrase.

What was suspious to me was, Bill never questioned or challanged him on what he said.

Trust but verify as the great RR use to say.

"Even gangs know the danger from hurricane wind forces!!! Makes absolutely no sense!??!"

Sorry, but I live exactly where Charley, Frances and Jeanne crossed paths. We had no looting because we are armed. I own a jewelry store in a strip plaza. When the winds dropped to 50 or 60 miles per hour, I went to my store. We had plenty of people out cruising through downed trees and power lines, but we also had plenty or ARMED business owners protecting their businesses. In an hour or so, I probably spotlighted 50 to 70 cars and trucks that had no business cruising my parking lot. These were looter want-a-be's but when confronted with an armed property owner, they decided to go get in line for a bag of FEMA ice and an MRE.

An armed society is a polite society.

If I had been in NO, I probably would have left the area instead of staking out my business. Simply a matter of elevation.
