How did Geraldo and Shep Smith get there?

Shep was there before Katrina struck. Geraldo got there probably by hitching a ride with the NG or some other authoratative agaency.

Media has a pass to go through approved routes. Lots of ways to get anywhere, and new, unpatrolled routes open up in a flood.

thought to be the most corrupt in the country.

a lot still are. several in jail for murder. killing witnesses to murders committed by gang members. FBI has been investigating them for some time.

you will find organized gangs who have existed in new orleans for a long long time. These gangs who may have been lead by LA, Miami, bloods, crips, whatever they call themselves) etc were already there and have been for years too.

I have no doubt some had better communication than the NOPD. Some of them were most likely cops involved in this organization.

this will be buried now since the administation has "taken the blame".

Anything positive to Bush is buried by the MSM.

"Maybe that is why the bridge to Gretna was closed. Those official new what was happening"

Don't know if this story is true or not, but the closing of the bridge was done for the reason of looting prevention. There was no reason for people on foot to cross that bridge

I guess the thing that makes me most skeptical is question why Hunt would know, and nobody else report it; not that I'd expect the network idiots to know, but some of the local reporters at nola.com might have sources.

Absolutly impossible for a police force even if it's fully functioning to secure the perimeter on a major U.S. city. Simply not enough eyes and feet.

Maybe Col. Hunt has people reporting to him from the "free fire zones" and the media was chasing "Bush Bashing Blanco".

"National Guard" should have been there from day 1.

EVEN if it were legal it would NOT be possible to get the National Guard into any area on the FIRST DAY!!!

"The Louisiana State Police scanners had officers pulling over stolen cars (actually lots of brand new Caddies) laden with looters and their booty all over LA on Wed. and Thurs. nights."

BOR had someone on the phone one night early on in the mayhem who specifically said that the first thing that happened was that people went out and stole all the Caddies off the lot from down the street. Corroborates this statement.

"EVEN if it were legal it would NOT be possible to get the National Guard into any area on the FIRST DAY!!!"

Tuesday, after the storm, FoxNews had a report stating that the Army, Coast Guard and National Guard were rescuing people all day. It's on my homepage titled, "There was no delay getting help to New Orleans".

That is a point however if you had a tight group of professionals working an area
A) how many news reporters would be making a round trip into the area you were working?
B) If you could not control the media incursions wouldn't it be prudent to 1) Dress and move your operatives so as to blend in with the local trash when unavoidable.
2)Operate as much as possible below the radar of media exposure.
My point isn't to agree or disagree with the colonel just to point out that the possibility certainly is real. Another poster referenced the cop, the first thing a cop is trained to do when facing a force of superior numbers and armament is to call for back up, not possible in NO total communications meltdown. So even police officers who were not corrupt(a relatively small number in any LEA in my O)they could fill there time trying to stop Joe sixpack from taking that plasma screen without sticking his neck out so far that it might come back without his head.

I think this story is going to grow arms and legs. Only time will tell but here is why I think that. It gets businesses to invest into the City because the locals are not bad people. The bad people came from 8 and 16 hours out to loot New Orleans.

It puts a softer side to the local looters of New Orleans. Because, as Hunt indicates, they were only looting wal-marts and grocery stores.(now doesn't that give you a warm and fuzzy feeling?).

The BAD GANGS from Dallas(8 hour drive) Miami(guess 14-16 hours) and I don't recall the other cities were the ones going after banks, museums, etc.

If the outside gangs came in, they were in already with the local gangs and they had to get in before the Hurricane.

I know the City, I know it very well. Most if not all routes, and there is only a very few to get in, were either destroyed(slidell, eliminates miami route) or blocked by police and flood waters. I-10, Causeway shut off, 90 via Miss. River Bridge, blocked by Jefferson police.

I would first question the local police who did not show up, the crimminals who were just let out and the organized gangs that already existed in NO who were also controlling the Dome and Convention Center.

Bottom line, respect Hunt, but this just has a lot of holes in his story.

quite a bit off the point, but any guess whether death count will go higher ,for instance when ninth ward, wherever that is, is drained?

I do not know if I believe this guy

Out of State? Which State? What they drove across the destroyed bridges in caravans of gangs? I read on the washington post that at he convention center the thugs with guns were from rival housing projects. That sounds far more believeable to me

post 31 really doesn't prove anything.

trace the evacuee's, see the clips of them getting on buses with large suit cases, shoulder bags, etc, all they had to do is find pawn shops in these cities to unload this crap once they got there.

Out of towners??? New Orleans has as many gangs of thugs as Zarcharwi does. The authorities need to clean them out along with the muddy sewage. This "new shining city" cannot be a haven for them any longer.
