TRENTON, Sept. 15 - The joke has long been that dead people vote in Hudson County, New Jersey's legendary enclave of machine politics. But now the joke may be on New Jersey, according to a new analysis of voter records by the state's Republican Party.
Comparing information from county voter registration lists, Social Security death records and other public information, Republican officials announced on Thursday that 4,755 people who were listed as deceased appear to have voted in the 2004 general election. Another 4,397 people who were registered to vote in more than one county appeared to have voted twice, while 6,572 who were registered in New Jersey and in one of five other states selected for analysis voted in each state.
At a news conference at the State House, Tom Wilson, the state's party chairman, took pains to say that the analysis did not look at voters' party affiliation. He also said that the party was not accusing voters of committing fraud, suggesting instead that someone else may have exploited their names without their knowledge.

The Blue States are a lot redder than people may think...and the joke about "How come dead people only vote democrat?" wears a bit thin when these criminals are put in office year after year under these fraudulent means.
Mayor Daley--call yer office.

This should be on going in every state from now until the next national election. Why can't there be a cross match made on every state and county to find the duplicates and dead bodies.

There are at least 4 states that will change from blue to red if Republicans work hard cleaning up the voter fraud crap. If they don't do the work the Dems won't.

This should be on going in every state from now until the next national election. Agreed, but it won't mean squat unless voter ID is enforced. That's even bigger than the dead rising on Election Day.

For sure. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any reason to get out the dead vote.

I'm sure that the number of voters in New Orleans and the number of people accounted for after Katrina will be vastly different. No wonder Mayor Nagin was trying to make 10000 people disappear.

"The Republican Party is infamous for voter suppression tactics, so they occupy the moral low ground on this issue." No shame.

Interesting story, my mother is retired and is heavily involved in the republican Party. She has volunteered to head up what is called the "voter vault" in our county, she is going through all the public records and updating the party rolls and comparing them to the voter records. She and my daughter get together every couple of days and go through the obituaries to cross out people, kind of macobb(?) in a way but they are finding out a lot of things wrong with the system.

The NY Times discovers voter fraud in NJ...this could be hugh! series! (Actually it will be curtains for the Dems if the GOP does the same in every precinct nationwide. But don't count on it.)

This should not stand for the US. Maybe we just need to start dipping fingers in ink.

The NYT teams up with conservatives against a piece of rat corruption? Something's gotta give, and I see little leverage on the side of corruption at this point-- in this one issue at least.

I don't want to see all the empty grave sites, and find bodies strewn around with ink on their fingers. I'd just as soon keep the fraud. [just kidding =]

Seriously, it's the late-night or early morning voting when the dead come out. You don't see them walking to the voting booth, because they have 'a channeller' in the building.
