Law Would Require Cleaning Ice, Snow From Cars
The Associated Press ^ | September 15, 2005 | AP

BOSTON -- It's cold, it's snowing, and there's ice and snow on the car. So you hop in and go without clearing off all the winter precipitation.

That might soon be against the law in Massachusetts.

The state Legislature is considering a bill that would mean fines of up to $500 and a six-month stay in jail.

The bill is designed to reduce the danger from chunks of snow and ice flying off car roofs or hoods.

If it passes, Massachusetts could become the first state to require snow- and ice-free cars.

When will they pass the, "Butt wiping is mandatory" law? Either that or force the legislators up there to get day jobs.

"fines of up to $500 and a six-month stay in jail."

I'll take the six months. By the time I got out, it would be summer.

Yet another reason not to live in Massachusetts - as if another was needed.

But I thought that cars' exhausts are causing global warming? Shouldn't the very act of driving the car melt the snow away?!?!?!?!?!

I don't have a problem with a law like this. Anyone who has driven along a highway and sustained windshield or body damage from a chunk of ice flying off the roof of some jack@ss who didn't bother clearing off his vehicle understands what I'm talking about.

I bet you've never had a huge chunk of ice fly off the car in front of you and bounce on your hood, then into your windshield at highway speeds...

I take it you've never been hit by a flying slab of ice while driving down the freeway.

oh my NO not really "liberallunacy"!

Ever get behind a truck that tosses a pebble at your windshield? That's what it's like when you don't clear off the top off the cars, the snow - sometimes ice flies off the top when the cars get going and it hits the windshields of the cars behind them. It's very dangerous!

When I lived there, I saw the ice coming off the tops of busses & trucks on the highway - and I thanked GOD I wasn't behind them when it happened.

Sad to think it's going to take a law to make people do what should be considered common sense, though!

Come on now - you're forgetting that people with handicaps and heart conditions should be able to get guv-mint money to help them wipe their butts. And besides that, you've obviously never been hit with a flying "debris" because someone failed to wipe.
