For the Third flipping time, Judge Roberts has to explain to Durbin what the role of a hired gun, ie an attorney does for a living. What a moron.
Durbin just helped Roberts answer a problem he had with some conservatives over the Colorado case -- getting Roberts to say that he would have helped Colorado if they asked him first.
"what was the golf joke?"
Something about not even God can hit a 1 iron....
wahhhh...Durbin wants to lick Paris Hilton's toads?!!!..
where is this hearing going !!!!
Durbin now wants to know if there are any cases he WOULDN'T take.
Durbin mentioned that Roberts said every child should get an education, but said that didn't answer whether he would fight for that right.
Roberts - Many people become lawyers for various reasons and have their own pet causes. I became a lawyer because I believe in the Rule Of Law, to promote and vindicate it, regardless of the cause.
ROLL CALL
Alrighty then. Who's in the pool? Name the next nominee.
He said it twice yesterday but apparently it fell on deaf dem ears.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Then he asks a gotcha question on the pro bono work for a gay rights case. Roberts asks the question simply and directly.
Where would you draw the line on the cases you take.
Roberts says simply that he became a lawyer not for a "cause", but a belief in the rule of law period. He simply outflanks Durbin - and oh so easily.
Turbin talking about values. Turbin, please give us a list of your values.
Do you believe in the value of elections?
I finally got a live thread on NPR's radio website.
From Give me Liberty or Give me Death and Common Sense by Thomas Paine to Madison's Federalists Papers, to a socialist Senator bringing up Paris Hilton at a judicial confirmation hearing in an attempt to get a nominee to admit that he will actually follow the Constitution and not a lobbyist...Gives me the belief that Judge Bork was right, we are sliding towards Gemorrah.
You are the bomb.
I wish. No cable. I have printed the transcripts that Oxen so kindly linked to. That'll have to do. *whimper*
On the other hand, Judge Roberts is doing a fabulous job of explaining the role of advocates in our legal system. I'm a lawyer, and it almost made me cry. I've seen so much that is not up to that standard but that nevertheless the standard that should apply.
turbin is fishing for the headline. He's not going to get one.
Would you restrict freedom in America or would you expand freedom?
Turbin wants to EXPAND 'HIS IDEA" of freedom.
That is the definition of ACTIVISM.
Durbin's a foul, stinking skunk,
Though he puts on the airs of a monk.
He feigns he's amazed
That the words that he phrased
Could put troops' morale in a funk.
Gulag Durbin: "There is no question you would follow the law. However, would you restrict freedom or expand it?"
