That is the Trek that was on the air (in syndication) in my formative years. NextGen did get better, but I always thought that Worf and Riker should be in command while Piccard should be the ship's cook or Recreation officer.

I've been shackled to the sewing machine.
I would love to be in some fun trouble.

Seriously, who wants a wannabe archaeologist/musician as a Captain? What is he going to do, lecture the Romulans to death on comparative mythology and the diatonic scale?

I'm a big fan of the original series. I went to conventions for years, dragging my son to them when he got old enough. I think I've met most of the cast of the original series and a number from STNG and STDSN.
Like the teachings espoused in 'All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten,' book, I learned much of what I need to know from ST. ST informed my change in careers and wound up in my doctoral exam (it was relevant to the discussion).
People may laugh when you are a ST fan (for some reason, they find going to conventions very nerdy), but the show was interesting and the conventions were fun for the whole family. ST was probably responsible for a number of careers in science, space, and computing; not bad for a little TV show.
