Just heard on top of the hour on Fox News Radio
Good point. That is going back a long time though. I was thinking the title of most liberal republican president would be between Nixon and Bush but Teddy is on up there too.
The only thing that shields Bush from conservative criticism is that he references "God" quite often.
Incredible...time to take back the country!
And Teddy was really a Lincoln style interventionist Republican. When Mcinkley shifted the party's stance then he went in another direction and left the party later on. IIRC.
This ruling isn't preventing you from doing so btw.
I thought Ford was from Michigan. In any case, Ford and Nixon aren't the best examples of solid conservatives.
I agree however that California gets an bad rap from those that are social conservatives. California adds a lot to the country that most just don't understand or realize.
Why was it just this one judge and not a panel? IIRC the USSC sent this case back to the federal courts on a technicality?
Two things Navy SEALS are always taught:
1. Keep your priorities in order
2. Know when to act without hesitation
A college professor, an avowed atheist and active in the ACLU, was
teaching his class. He shocked several of his students when he flatly
stated that for once and for all he was going to prove there was no God.
Addressing the ceiling he shouted:
"GOD, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform.
I'll give you exactly 15 minutes!!!!!"
The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes
went by " I'm waiting God - if you're real, knock me off this
platform!!!!"
Again after 5 minutes, the professor taunted God saying, "Here I am,
God!!!
I'm still waiting!!!"
His count down got down to the last couple of minutes when a SEAL, just
released from the Navy after serving in Afghanistan and Iraq and newly
registered in the class, walked up to the Professor. The SEAL hit him
full force in the face and sent the Professor tumbling from his lofty
platform.
The Professor was out cold!! The students were stunned and shocked. They
began to babble in confusion. The SEAL nonchalantly took his seat in the
front row and sat silent. The class looked at him and fell silent....
waiting. Eventually, the professor came to and was noticeably shaken. He
looked at the SEAL in the front row. When the professor regained his
senses and could speak he asked:
"What is the matter with you?! Why did you do that!?"
"God was really busy protecting America's soldiers who are busy
protecting your right to say stupid things and act like a jerk!!! So he
asked me to fill in for him!!"
You're not really defending that action are you?
BTW I do say 'One Nation Under God'......but instead of trying to stop the majority from saying that....I think the Judge should have told the objectors to just keep quiet.
You sure this isn't an urban legend? It sounds an awful lot like the story about a professor who claimed that if there was a God then he could stop a egg from breaking when it hit the floor. The professor dropped the egg and it landed in his pants cuff and didn't break. (Urban legend of course)
Actually, Jeff, my logic is that anyone who takes the time to write out "In the year of our Lord" is acknowledging a worldview.
AD does not accomplish the same thing, although it is testimony of a culture buying into a particular dating schema.....for Jews I think we're at about the year 5000+ or so.
However, if a Roman were writing a letter in Latin and took trouble to date it, "anno domini....." what era would you guess him to have lived?
Seems all the judges on the 9th regularly drink a 5th.
The majority isn't prevented from saying it. The goverment is prohibited from asking anyone to say it.
I remember something about "being forced," but I'm not sure if that was Newdow's last Appeals Court ruling or if it was simply some of the discussion that arose the last time this was discussed.
Good memory, though, on your part. Thanks.
