Quote of the Day: Tomorrow, President Talabani and I will take our seats at the United Nations in New York. The session will mark the first time in a half-century that Iraq is represented by a freely elected government.
Securing freedom in Iraq has required great sacrifice, Mr. President. You know that better than anybody. And there's going to be difficult days ahead. Yet I have no doubt about the impact of a democratic Iraq on the rest of the world. As Iraq becomes a federal, unified democracy, people throughout the broader Middle East will demand their own liberty. The Middle East will become more peaceful, and America and the world become more secure.
We're proud to call you, friend, Mr. President, and proud to have you as an ally in the war on terror. On behalf of the American people, I want to thank you for Iraq's generous pledge of aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Welcome to the United States.
PRESIDENT TALABANI: Thank you. Thank you, Mr. President, for your kind remarks. It is honor for me to stand here today as a representative of free Iraq. It is an honor to present the world's youngest democracy.
In the name of Iraqi people, I say to you, Mr. President, and to the glorious American people, thank you, thank you. Thank you, because you liberated us from the worst kind of dictatorship. Our people suffered too much from this worst kind of dictatorship. The -- (inaudible)
-- was hundred thousand of Iraqi innocent children and women, young and old men. Thank you, and thanks to the United States, there are now 15 million Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq liberated by your courageous leadership and decision to liberate us, Mr. President.
We agree with Mr. President Bush that democracy is the solution to the problems of the Middle East. Mr. President, you are a visionary, great statesman. We salute you. We are grateful to you. We will never forget what you have done for our people.
PRESIDENT BUSH: Thank you, sir.

Now THAT'S a compliment that x42 never got and never deserved.
Thanks, Ohio .. W definitely needed this splendid moment, and to be eloquently and graciously thanked and honored as he was in the quote of the day. You can see the lift in his spirits today. Thank you, God.
Hi Ohio,
Posting and running. Thanks for posting the Dose. God bless our President. The rantings of the MSM would have driven me over the edge long ago.
Kofi: "I will NOT resign"...
Great dose! Thank you for your work. The picture of GWB and Laura is terrific! He looks very handsome in that suit--and Laura looks just lovely. They are both in my prayers. I am due to write a note to them as I have not done so in a bit--just to let them know how much they are appreciated. I try and hand write one every once in a while.
Thanks again!
I thought I had seen all of his many expressions and moods. But today was the first time I have ever seen him appear so subdued and maybe even a little depressed. It made me worry about him -- worry for him.
We expect WAY too much from our presidents. No single human being can do everything expected of the modern presidency. Indeed, the presidency wasn't designed to be what it has become. Aided and abetted by an ignorant, biased, lazy MSM, as well as by political opportunists of all stripes and a pathetic education system, most Americans seem truly clueless about the way our system of government works.
We have states for a reason. Each state has a government that is, essentially, a smaller version of the federal government, again for a reason. Both our federal and state governments have three separate branches for a reason. Within our states, each county and municipality has a council-type local government structure, for a reason.
Yet it all seems lost on the vast majority of the American public -- or so it seems to me after the events of the last two weeks.
Sigh. Sometimes I think, "What fools we Americans are. Even with all its flaws, we have the best system of government ever devised, but so few of us bother to learn about how it works and who's responsible for what."
In any case, with the Katrina disaster, the MSM, working hand-in-glove with the usual race hustlers and Left/Democrat demagogues have just succeed in pulling off a huge hoax. The federal response to Katrina was HEROIC, yet the Leftist cabal has succeeded in convincing people around the world that it was the opposite.
I can't believe the quote from PRESIDENT TALABANI. The media is sure not reporting this. All I heard from that press conference was that the President was taking responsibility for the hurricane response. I can't believe this statement wasn't reported! Well, maybe I CAN believe it.
