President Bush said Tuesday that "I take responsibility" for failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and said the disaster raised broader questions about the government's ability to respond to natural disasters as well as terror attacks. "Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government," Bush said at joint White House news conference with the president of Iraq.
"To the extent the federal government didn't fully do it's job right, I take responsibility," Bush said.
The president was asked whether people should be worried about the government's ability to handle another terrorist attack given failures in responding to Katrina.

Interesting that the Yahoo story, by the same writer, says "Bush takes responsibility", while this one says "Bush takes FULL responsibility". How disgraceful (the media spin is).
The MSM just doesn't understand that what they say anymore isn't found to be gospel with the American people like it used to be; and they are continuing to make fools of themselves, but I say let them...
The more they open their slanted mouths, ask their slanted questions, the more the people of America will find out how stupid they are...
I stand by what our President does and says, at least he's honest!
I'm just guessing, but...most of the time the headline is created by the editor, or perhaps in this case, the moderator of the website. So you could see the same article in two or more different places, but in each place the headline may be different.
The problem with taking responsibility is that it lets the local incompetents, including Blanco and Nagin, off the hook. Insofar as the well being of the people of Louisiana and New Orleans is concerned, relieving the local incompentents of any responsibility is something that should not be done.
One motive more to be proud of Mister Bush.
Where can you find another leader so loyal to take full resposability in a case like that??
He's a great man, and I'm proud to stand next to him.
GOD BLESS PRESIDENT BUSH, FRiends!
Bushfault!
Bushfault!
Yeah, I've noticed how the "AP Headline News" stories on Katrina are heavily and obviously biased against the Bush Administration. I haven't seen one story about Blanco and Nagin's bad decisions or Louisiana DHS's decision to keep the Red Cross out of New Orleans, while I've seen dozens of AP stories about "Slow federal response", "Embattled FEMA chief Michael Brown", and now a story about Bush taking responsibility for "blunders." The AP appears to be completely subservient to the Democrat party and has become merely a de facto propaganda wing of the DNC. I don't actually read their stories any more, but their headlines pop up on my home page. Time to find a new home page.
I don't know if this is a right move by the prez or not, but HE just flamed the media timbers to high hog heaven! I'm disappointed, he should not take the blame for those horrid rats! One reason our party is in the hole that it is, because they constantly bend over and hold their ankles! We knew the mediawhores were going to twist his apology...he hasn't learned after 5years of constant kissing the prestitutes behind, how many times must we bail all of them out..sigh!
You should add a topic such as News/Front Page News or News/Extended News so this article appears in the sidebar. This is an important subject.
well, well, well.....isn't THAT interesting?
GREAT find!
What psrt of "to the extent" do they not understand.
They completely understand what he said. This is part of a deliberate effort by the MSM to distort the meaning of his statement through the use of deceptive headlines and selective editing of his statement.
''The public is more prone to forgive an honest and contrite admission of failure than it is to be seduced by lame excuses and transparent attempts to shift the blame. While others may have their own degree of culpability, everyone knows that it is only the federal government that possesses the capability to do what needed to have been done.''
