I just spoke to a young man at the Office of the Superintendent of the Flight 93 National Memorial. (814) 443-4557.
There have been several threads here at FR regarding the proposed Islam Crescent at the memorial. Like the rest of you, I am appalled that such a symbol would even be considered.
I decided to do something about it. Sunday evening I faxed my objection to them in writing. It was a one page fax, and was a page printed from FR which showed the Crescent. Beside the picture I wrote my name, phone etc, and voiced my objections. The fax number is 814-443-2180.
This morning I called and spoke to the man who answered the phone. He was very professional, I was polite. I gave him my name, and then spelled it to make sure he got it right. I then said Im called to voice my objection to the use of the Islamic Crescent at the Flight 93 Memorial He replied that he would make note of it and make sure that it was passed along. He then asked if there was anything more that I wanted to say. (Note to callers: RESISIT the urge to unload at this point, doing so will negate the effectiveness of your call) I said I was appalled that anyone would even consider that symbol at the memorial. I continued to say that the people responsible should be fired. He said he would pass that along also.
He then asked me for my phone number, which I gave.
Will our calls make a difference? I dont know, but I knew NOT calling isnt going to change things.

Let's see . . .if they had designed the memorial in the shape of a cross, the ACLU would have a hissyfit. So why isn't the ACLU all over this design?

Is it realy an Islamic Crescent?
The South Carolina state flag has a crescent moon AND a palm tree. I didn't believe it when I heard, and neither will you [unless you already know], anyway, click here:

I am glad that concern is voiced over this, but I heard similar claims about the USA seal at the White House and Pentagon, how it represented the satanic seal and such. I didn't get the same effect in viewing this when looking at the pictures on Freerepublic as some did. Perhaps I missed something.

It's known as the Crescent City, and has been since long before Islam became an issue. It's because it's in a big crescent-shaped bend of the Mississippi River.

I wouldn't have batted an eye at the design, except that the architect helpfully title it the Crescent of Embrace. Neither one of those things should be within miles of that scene.

New Orleans was the Crescent City, describing its shape around the Mississippi River.

I'd like to know the identities of the folks who sat on the jury that picked this design. I haven't been able to find that info anywhere.

Good for you!You are a true American! This is what you are talking about...
Muslims didn't/don't sympathize - THEY consider this to have been a great victory! This is like making a holocaust memorial in the shape of a swastika. Absolutely disgusting. I think is a slap in the face of every solider that is fighting terrorism now. And a shameful way to honor those that have died in this fight. Recognize it for what it is....

New Orleans began as the crescent city, named after the curve of the river as it flows past the old docks. Perfectly natural to add that tot he city's crest. But, the Islamic extremists WHO KILLED the people on Flight 93 WERE ALL MUSLIM. And they murdered those passengers (and their intended Innocent targets on the ground!) IN THE NAME OF THEIR RELIGION.
Isn't that (by itself) reason to NOT use an Islamic crescent - oriented to Mecca, by the way, as the single of the design commemorating their murders?
Or do you favor the next Holocaust museum be designed to look like a swastika from above?

We've paid taxpayer dollars to tear out WPA program good luck swastikas out of public buildings in recent years.
Those swastikas predated Hitler's own violent connection to the historical symbol.
Muslim fanatics killed good Americans that day on that site.
Building a monument that is in the shape of one of their religious icons on the site of the crash is bad judgement at the very least (blindsided). Our enemies may find pride in such a monument; certainly it would be considered a "holy place" and a suitable location for a mosque if ever they overrun the West. It is indicative of the day "19 brave jihadists" stabbed deep into the heart of the land of the Great Satan.
