Now some fresh pickings from the Hurricane Grapevine:
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin (search) greeted President Bush when he arrived in Louisiana last night, and was at his side as he fielded questions on the Katrina relief efforts this morning. That quality time with the president, however, marks the mayor's first visit to the disaster area since Wednesday when Nagin pulled up stakes and moved his family to Dallas. The Dallas Morning News reports that Nagin has already bought a house in the city, and enrolled his daughter in school.
When the Mayor appeared on "Meet the Press" on Sunday from Dallas, he was never asked about his presence there, or his decision to move his family.

Nagin's a typical Dem lib. He wants to use our taxes to rebuild his town, but God forbid he invest his own money in a sinkhole. I'd prefer to think he couldn't find anybody in LA that would sell to him.
Anyone seen a pic of Nagin's new digs...?
I'm sure Nagin and Al Lipscomb have already met.
He had no choice but to move to Dallas so he could be closer to his police force in Vegas.
I read somewhere on FR that the next NO mayoral election is Feb. '06.
Pinning this on his party is shaky..
Nagin was a registered Republican until days before he filed for the Mayoral race, at which point he switched his part affiliation (presumably because New Orleans was never going to elect a Republican Mayor.)
Additionally, Nagin is a donor to George W. Bush and endorsed GOP gubernatorial nominee Bobby Jindal over Kathleen Blanco.
More proof that Nagin doesn't give a damn about New Orleans.
Wonder what all those folks either displaced by the flooding or especially those forced out at his order, think of him moving clear out of state? Wouldn't Red Stick have been far enough out of the disaster area? Or would have been too close to his former constituents? He certainly wouldn't want to be too close to the relatives of that older lady who was tackled in pursuance of his, after the water started receding, mandatory evacuation order and his Police Chief's gun confiscation order. Be a bitch though if they turned out to live in or have been evacuated to Dallas, wouldn't it? :)
Yeh. In situations like this, shouldn't the mayor go down with his city? (Not too many cities are sinking, but his (former one?) is.
It's called Article IV, Section 2, second paragraph, of the Constitution for the United States.
Maybe he thinks he can keep out of jail, where he belongs...
You might be right, he might just think that. His police chief certainly doesn't know what's in the US or Louisiana constitutions.
I stand corrected.
What's he planning to do, drive from his home in Dallas to his office in New Orleans on a daily basis?
Seems like he would want to live near his constituents as they recover from his disaster, or is he too good for that?
BTW, where are all the other New Orleans city officials holed up, Vegas?
I'd still like to see a pic of the place.
Sheehan and her crew started the ball rolling...
Hm...
Perhaps we should follow Crazy Cindy's example and go picket Nagin's house until he answers "The Questions"?
I'm in for a shift or three if we can do this.
I'd like to know his salary as mayor and see a picture of the house he has purchased in Dallas. Maybe it is just a small one bedroom in a less expensive neighborhood, [Barf}
Has anyone seen a direct link to the Dallas Morning News article? I did a quick search but found nothing. It would be a fabulous link to send to papers like the Minneapolis Red Star to demonstrate "'Rats deserting the sinking ship." Sorry.
