On Tuesday, the eighteen members of the Senate Judiciary Cmte. begin questioning Chief Justice nominee John Roberts. This will take all day, with the senators asking their questions, up to a half-hour for each member, in order of seniority, alternating by party.

The Schedule (media advisory)

Tentative Schedule for the Hearing: Schedule is subject to change

Tuesday, Sept. 13

9:30 am Chairman Specter begins 30 minute round of questioning (Round 1)

1:00 pm Break for lunch

The Dem playbook

The Hill newspaper gives us a peek at the Democratic playbook for the Roberts hearings. Below are the attack assignments for the Democratic members of the Committee:

Kennedy -- civil rights

Leahy -- Bybee torture memo

Biden -- privacy, personal autonomyand the 9th Amendment

Kohl -- Property rights and civil liberties

Feinstein -- "judicial activism" and Roe vs. Wade

Feingold -- limits of executive powers

Schumer and Durbin have wisely refused to show their hand.

Roberts can give a long, long, long answer that basically says, "I already answered that question when Senator Specter asked me."

Exactly. It's actually a two-fold strategy. Roberts can say he already covered that question and Specter can be seen as 'objective'.

In the big picture, the next shoe to drop is Bush naming Janice Rogers Brown for the O'Conner seat and putting the Dems in the box of attacking a black woman who has been nominated by a President who 'hates blacks'.

It's so intertesting that the left has their assigned attack topics and conservatives have not done the same or Specter has chosen not to do the same. He's creepy.

I think Specter is as opposed to Roberts as the Dims are, but he can't just come out and say it. Therefore he'll try to sink the nomination underhandedly.

Oh, no, Roe might be a "super, duper precedent." Specter, you are an idiot. If a decision leads to killing babies, it just must be more important than any other.

I can't imagine what it would be like to base everything that one believed in and fought for is based on the right to kill babies. I would think that would drive a person to go insane.....hmmmmmm

Specter is ticking me off, he better be doing this to help rather than hurt Roberts, but I do not trust him.

Bush will choose a woman for the O'Connor slot, but it will be a conservative woman. That is the only concession he'll make to the MSM. Additionally, Laura Bush wants a woman appointed to this vacancy, and she remains his #1 advisor.

Is it me. Spectre knows there are three cases related to Roe coming up, Roberts shouldn't be answering these.

And the third shoe is the President nominating Senator Jeff Sessions when a liberal Justice leaves the Court.
