Roberts can give a long, long, long answer that basically says, "I already answered that question when Senator Specter asked me." Exactly. It's actually a two-fold strategy. Roberts can say he already covered that question and Specter can be seen as 'objective'.
In the big picture, the next shoe to drop is Bush naming Janice Rogers Brown for the O'Conner seat and putting the Dems in the box of attacking a black woman who has been nominated by a President who 'hates blacks'.
