BELLEVUE, WA Following low-key inquiries that were met with stony silence and official indifference, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) today is calling for a federal investigation into reports of gun seizures from law-abiding New Orleans residents, and is demanding that officials there immediately account for all confiscated firearms.
CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb is also demanding that New Orleans police officials immediately stop the seizures, disclose where those firearms are being kept, how they are secured, the type and number of firearms involved, and how those guns will be promptly returned to their rightful owners, in the condition in which they were originally taken.
"I also want to know under just what authority New Orleans officials are confiscating lawfully-owned firearms from law-abiding citizens," Gottlieb said. "Where does it say that the state and federal Constitution can be nullified, even briefly, simply because of a hurricane? In every other natural disaster this country has ever faced, people retain their civil rights, including the right of self-defense, but New Orleans and Louisiana state officials have added the sin of arrogance to incompetence and negligence for which they must be held accountable when this is over."
Gun rights activists have been outraged by a film clip showing a police officer tackling an elderly woman who was armed, in her own home, and later removing her from the premises.
"We know this is only one incident that is being replayed incessantly, and that not all the circumstances are known," said CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron, "but this incident, combined with statements by local officials, particularly Police Superintendent P. Edwin Compass III, that nobody but police will be allowed to have guns, demands a full and complete explanation to the American public. Visiting police and National Guardsmen are in New Orleans to help hurricane victims, and the nation is grateful beyond words. You don't help people by violating their civil rights or the public trust."
"There are reports that residents who refuse to leave are being disarmed, anyway," Gottlieb added, "leaving them to the mercy of any lingering looters and thugs. If true, it is unconscionable. In the anarchy that reigned in the city for days, these armed citizens provided the only protection for their families, businesses and neighborhoods when many police walked off their jobs, and a few even participated in the looting, and the world knows it. The people responsible for making that decision should be immediately disciplined and relieved of command. Visiting officers from other jurisdictions involved in these confiscations should be immediately sent home.
"New Orleans is still part of the United States, not a police state," Gottlieb concluded.
With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation's premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States. The Citizens Committee can be reached by phone at (425) 454-4911, on the internet at www.ccrkba.org or by email to InformationRequest@ccrkba.org.
I expect this will happen with increasing frequency in the future. And I don't like it.
The first gun control laws were proposed and enacted by Democrats to prevent Blacks (Negro's at that time) from obtaining weapons.
The Blacks (Seesh, should I call them Negro's? This constant changing of the names by the RATS is confusing), anyway the Negro's were using them to protect themselves and their families against the KKK (read future Democrat Senators).
The fact that they would again focus on minorities ability to defend themselves against criminals surprises no one at FR, I'm sure. That's what elitists do.
That's the 29 Palms "Combat Arms Survey" I mentioned earlier, but did the JBS go and REALLY quote from "The Spotlight"?
I hope not -- but even if they did, I'd like for US to find one of the countless OTHER sources when referencing it here.
Even apart from that old scoundrel Carto's antisemitic ravings, there's the problem that if we DO quote from "The Spotlight" -- even if it's just something THEY picked up from a valid source -- we open ourselves up to attack for "quoting from those lunatics who preached 'The Protocols of The Elders of Zion'".
And in the process, we will ensure that many if not most readers will discount the actual message (that being the "Combat Arms Survey", which had NOTHING to do with "The Spotlight").
Any recommendations on what weapon I should purchase and where I could purchase it?
I've seen others versions of the clip though, and I too thought I remembered it being on FOX. I'll see if I can't find some of the other links. In this one you can hear her swearing at them after they tackled her. They say she had a knife as well as the gun, but I didn't see a knife. Also she wasn't holding her gun in a threatening manner. She did state - "you'll have to shoot me".
I'm so glad to see this thread. Thought you may be interested in it also.
I wonder if she has a good case for a lawsuit. If not her, someone else. I'm not talking about suing the LE on the scene. Instead, it's the people like Nagin and that police chief who need to be held to account in some way. No matter how you look at it, they are denying these N.O. residents their basic constitutional rights.
The most discouraging/disgusting part of that entire scene was watching her tell them that she did NOT want them in her home, and that they should LEAVE.
At that point, they were TRESPASSING. They had NO warrant, and NO probable cause.
Instead, they turned into what can only be described as armed home invaders.
Her first mistake was letting them into her house. I can't really fault her for it, because it was one scared elderly person versus a bunch of young, strong AUTHORITY figures who undoubtedly wooed her with a mix of "we REALLY want to HELP you" and raw intimidation, to get her to let them in.
Once they got their foot in the door, the outcome was certain.
"If you really want to poke your thumb into the eyes of the antis, join the DCM, and have them MAIL you a genuine Garand Rifle.
Just think of the looks you'll get when you walk into the Post Office to pick it up!"
One slight correction. CMP, formerly known as DCM, doesn't send firearms through the mail. They ship Fedex Next Day Air to your home address, more than likely to cut down on the chance of theft. An adult has to sign for the package. I bought two firearms through CMP, a Garand and a Springfield '03.
You mean Birdman Weapons Systems, "Unfriendly Products for an Unfriendly World"? Unfortunately, it looks like they're still offline.
Wow, thanks! I spent a good hour yesterday looking for it all over before I gave up.
Probably the first time I "IIRC'd" and was correct, heh.
That video still outrages me - and no - she was not holding the gun in a threatening manner, she was palming it, unless they consider just holding one at all, threatening. Which it seems they do in New Orleans. I suspect she will have a lawsuit soon.
i thought the first gun control laws were to give fdr's prohibition tax officers something to do after prohibition was ended?
first gun to buy for personal protection in home should be a good pump shotgun.
mossberg 500/ 590
remington 870
best is 12 ga for availability and low cost of ammo.
and a couple cases of various shot sizes and slugs would be appropriate.
12 guage shotgun
.22 cal rifle
ar-15
.45 cal 1911 variant pistol
Things every respectable home should not be without.
Not necessarily. We can inform the guys coming into our country about our laws (with an easy-to-read pamphlet covering the basics, for example). The guys across the border can do likewise with a pamphlet of their own.
Damn, I really AM getting old! :(

Yeah - take mine! My hand would still be wrapped around it and it would be empty.
My new CMP catalog should be here any day. The next step is to try to convince the Missus that I really, really need another Garand. I know how that will go over. :^ )
