Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 10:27 p.m. EDT Mary Landrieu: School Bus Failure Bush's Fault
It was the Bush administration's fault that hundreds of city school buses weren't dispatched to evacuate the hurricane-battered residents of New Orleans two weeks ago before floods swamped the city, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu said Sunday.
Asked on "Fox News Sunday" why New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin failed to follow the city's evacuation plan and press the buses into service, Landrieu blamed Bush administration cuts in mass transit funding.
"Mayor Nagin and most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out of the city in front of a hurricane," she said. "And it's because this administration and administrations before them do not understand the difficulties that mayors . . . face." Landrieu then added: "In other words, this administration did not believe in mass transit. They won't even get people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out."
Saying she was unwilling to criticize Louisiana officials, the Louisiana Democrat insisted that Mayor Nagin's evacuation efforts had been a smashing success.
"Because the mayor evacuated the city, we had the best evacuation . . . of any evacuation I've seen. I'm 50 years old; I've never seen one any better," Landrieu told FNS.
That prompted FNS host Chris Wallace to remind: "But there were a hundred thousand people left in the city."
Landrieu once again blamed the White House, saying:
"They did [have] a hundred thousand people left in the city because this federal government won't support cities to evacuate people, whether it's from earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes. And that's the truth."
hahahaaha. You've got to be kidding. How very pathetic.
PREDICTION:
The feds dont want pictures of the dead taken . The body count so far (thank God ) is way lower than expected. The Libs and MSM will start to say that the Bush administration is hiding the bodys and is purposing lowering the body count as a cover up for their mishandling of the hurricane. Wait and see
Probably even more reliably.
You mean it was the mayor's job to get you some of that there "public assistance"...that way you wouldn't have had to work, save, buy a car...all those other self-reliant things that DaddyGov is supposed to do for you.
Man, you gotta work on your "entitlement" pose!
Nominated for "Stupidest FR Post Of The Day."
"Mayor Nagin and most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out of the city in front of a hurricane,"
Why, those lazy, shiftless, good-for-nothin'... oops, that sounds like it's headed into racist territory, doesn't it, Senator Landrieu?
She sounds like an unreconstructed Dixiecrat.
Gag me with a cuchara
That's bogus. They can't get democrats to work at all! Who's she trying to kid?
All the mayer had to do was pretend there was an election. They'd have not only gotten the live people on the buses, but they'd have collected the long dead and every animal registered to vote, too!
The state had no preplan or aftermath plan. The democrat politicians ran like hell and hid. They screwed up, period.
This was a democrat problem, and as usual, the rest of the nation has to clean up another one of their failures. Any idiot can figure that one out. The left wing liars aren't fooling anyone.
Landrieu's answers were incompetent and insulting.
I be dumb ok.
Absolutely incredible.
First, the Mayor of NO said he wanted Greyhound buses and would not use the school buses.
Then Jessie 'Race Baiter' Jackson says on Hannity and Colmes the buses were not used because they had no place set up to take them, no plan. Huh??
Then on MTP, Mayor Noggin said they would have used the buses but there would be no drivers. Huh?
Anyway, now it is the Bush administration's fault that the buses were sitting underwater because of education cuts? Excuse me?
Whether there were cuts or not (there were none. In fact, almost all of us on this board really did not like the additional 400 BILLION inserted into the Education Bill that Ted 'Hiccup' Kennedy wrote), the buses were ALREADY THERE!! What, they could not get gas BEFORE the storm hit?
What this catastrophe proves beyond a shadow of a doubt is that when things get very tough, life threatening, Democrats will panic, go hysterical, and immediately try and get political advantage. They will not and cannot lead!
G*ddamit ... Bush should've been down there driving them buses himself! And Cheney too!
agree with your first sentence
When Mary said this my non political wife asked who she was. I told her and she said, "Was she just insulting government workers, or every every worker in America?".
And don't forget, he was supposed to to it all while the Governor retained control of her national guard!
HUNH ?
"Was she just insulting government workers"
Government workers in a city that is almost 70% black, adding in other cities just to be "fair."
<< That prompted FNS host Chris Wallace to remind: "But there were a hundred thousand people left in the city."
Landrieu once again blamed the White House, saying:
"They did [have] a hundred thousand people left in the city because this federal government won't support cities to evacuate people, whether it's from earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes. And that's the truth." >>
which at that point he reached across the desk and slapped the woman back to reality...or at least thats what I wish had happened.
