PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: After the President and First Lady attended church in Washington this morning, they participated in a September 11, 2001 rememberance and moment of silence on the White House lawn. GWB then headed for New Orleans where he touched down mid-afternoon. He will be spending the night aboard the USS Iwo Jima, which is docked in New Orleans harbor near downtown.
The President was met by New Orleans Mayor Nagin, but Gov. Kathleen Blanco was not present.
Patriot Day 2005 Proclamation
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America
Four years have passed since our country was brutally attacked on a quiet September morning. On that day, thousands of innocent lives were taken from us. The victims and the families who lost loved ones remain in the hearts and prayers of our Nation. We also remember the courage of the firefighters, police officers, emergency rescue personnel, and scores of private citizens who showed us the true meaning of heroism and demonstrated our resolve to the world.
The mission that began on September 11, 2001, continues. Today, we see the virtue of the September 11th heroes embodied in our military personnel, who are taking the fight to our enemies and helping to keep us safe at home. Thousands of other Americans, from intelligence analysts to border guards to countless others, are doing vital work to help defend America and prevent future attacks. We are grateful to all of these men and women and to their families for their service and sacrifice. We honor those who have lost their lives defending our freedom, and we pray that God comfort their families. We pledge that we will not rest until we have won the war on terror.
As we mark this solemn anniversary, I call upon all our citizens to express their patriotism and their gratitude for the blessings of liberty. By flying the flag, supporting military families, and teaching young people about our founding ideals, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and since, and we help preserve our freedom for future generations.
By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107 89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2005, as Patriot Day. I call upon the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as appropriate officials of all units of government, to direct that the flag be flown at half staff on Patriot Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services, to display the flag at half staff from their homes on that day, and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time to honor the innocent victims who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this ninth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirtieth.
GEORGE W. BUSH
Yes. I saw it live and thought it was really funny. If anyone else did that to a Vice Admiral, they'd be put in their place quickly. But the Vice Admiral simply took the camera and snapped the photo. Then he handed the camera back to the President, who gave it back to the sailor.
How are you good friend"snugs"
Before Katrina, I thought that's what all mayors did in this kind of situation. Nagin proved otherwise.
He's an embarrassment. Blanco and Landrieu, too.
Hi Jonny. Well stated. I had a similar impression, but didn't know how to communicate it.
I have enourmous respect for those two men...men who walk the walk, but still know how to talk the talk.
Thanks for the great pics.
WOW . . . While this Flight 93 movie is difficult to watch, it's an absolute must see!
Night all!
Thank you all praying for "Kitty Mittens"THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!
Thanks again Deb, for great info. I will definately be sharing this with a few folks. Ummmm, Boxer and DiFi come to mind!
I think George W is probably a lot different with employees in private than in public because you cannot dress down an employee in front of People. In such an important job as working for the President you better not mess up and he is like his Mama a hard as$. Tough cookies, that is what you need to keep a tight ship. I will bet that that backbiter colin Powell has been spilling his guts, it would not be out of character because he was a huge leaker when he was Secretary of State. He is out of the loop now and is jealous of Condi so since he has nothing to leak, he is acting like a nasty jealous teenage girl and talking out of school. I would bet money it is him. Hey Colin obviously nobody was afraid of you especially liberals.

Those of us who have followed GWB every step of the way through photographs these past five-plus years know him better than anyone else other than his own family.
To Thomas, first I would say that if GWB is such a tyrant to work for, how come people of the caliber of Andy Card, Karen Hughes, Condi Rice, and even that Democrat, Norm Mineta, have worked for him for years?
To those of us who know him so well, I would say that GWB definitely has a tough side. I wouldn't be surprised if he is something of a demanding boss who does not suffer fools gladly. But we also know he is a deeply warm, caring, often funny man who wears his heart on his sleeve. There is absolutely zero artifice in the man in every aspect of his life. I have no doubt that's true in the office as well as in public. The personality type shows so much of the inner person will show both the sweetness and the temper, and everythign in between. Doesn't bother me a bit.
Do we have any news about Kitty ?
A lot of people that have worked for President Bush have NOT been loyal..and respected his ways...
It seems like a lot of former White House employees, like O'Neill, and even Colin Powell can't seem to wait to contradict things, and come out negative on Bush...as soon as they leave...
A lot of people say President Bush is loyal to a FAULT...like with Michael Brown...but it seems he picks some people that make HIM look bad...
I agree with your assessment of Powell. I used to admire him, but have seen a different side of him in the last year or so.
"The President did look more rested and his demeanor seemed brighter today."
I was JUST flipping tv channels and I saw footage of the President coming down the plane stairs and greeting Nagin. He looked really GOOD. That colour blue and rolled-up shirtsleeves becomes him. He does look better rested...and energetic. Considering he came from 9/11 anniversary ceremonies, and the past two weeks of hell, this is very good. May God continue to strengthen and encourage him.
"I love the way Dubya and Laura hold hands, it does good for my heart"
. . . that was my first thought when I viewed the '911 rememberance photo' . . . thank goodness they have each other!
OK, now I'm really leaving to watch the end of the Flight 93 movie.
Same with me. I was born and raised in New York City metro area, then moved out here in 1976. But my very first childhood crush was on Roger Staubach, so I've been a Cowboys fan for life. Great game today. Best I've seen the Cowboys plan in a loooooonng time.
Regarding the guy the President was speaking with so vigorously, unles it's reported somewhere in the media, we may never know his name. Sigh. My curiosity is high over him, too.
