NBC's Williams: Journalists' Gloves Off
AP ^

Posted on 09/11/2005 11:16:29 AM PDT by jmc1969

NBC's Brian Williams says the lasting legacy of Hurricane Katrina for journalists may be the end of an unusual four-year period of deference to people in power.

There were so many angry, even incredulous, questions put to Bush administration officials about the response to Katrina that the Salon Web site compiled a "Reporters Gone Wild" video clip. Tim Russert, Anderson Cooper, Ted Koppel and Shepard Smith were among the stars.

The mute button seemingly in place since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks has been turned off.

"By dint of the fact that our country was hit we've offered a preponderance of the benefit of the doubt over the past couple of years," the "Nightly News" anchorman said. "Perhaps we've taken something off our fastball and perhaps this is the story that brings a healthy amount of cynicism back to a news media known for it."

Hundreds of reporters, in all media, did heroic work on the Gulf Coast in the deadly storm's aftermath. None arguably was as financially and symbolically important to his company as the job turned in by Williams.

Williams said he sensed trouble brewing already that Sunday, Aug. 28. At the Superdome, he saw National Guardsman barking orders at people seeking shelter, and patting down small children and the elderly for weapons. The crowd was angry about being forced to stand in line in the rain even though there was a large overhang a few yards away, he said.

I never comment on anything Brian Williams says. I can't stand the guy. He just rubs me the wrong way. During my life and career, I have known people like him, and they were generally useless as productive human beings. This guy is a loser, no matter what his politics are. End of story!!!

Journalists really are by and large this stupid by their own statements.

Many are from small unranked colleges who may or may not have finished degrees so they have little if any subject matter expertise and reasoning ability. The media elites with "back east" snooty degrees are Politburo agenda driven appuratchiks; most displayed their herd instincts and appetites as Clintons' coprophagics.

The one undeniable truth is that this Water World Plantation mass suicide pit must never again be developed even with private money. Raze everything below sea level and burn it for future sport fishing.

"Network news died along time ago. It is now NETWORK POLITICS."

Exactly. Oh, and while their gloves are off, they might want to remember what FR and the internet did to unmask Dan Blather's little scheme to trash Bush.

Here's the deal, Mr. Brokaw-lite: Spin one important news item, tell one lie, try to cover up or avoid one important story unfavorable to the Rats, and we're comimg after your worthless MSM asses (ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN).

Got it?

Good.

[ You know the old comment by Mark Twain: Reporters can investigate and do research, or they can simply repeat what is told to them -- both approaches pay the same. ]

Withering attack on journalism... true then, true now..
Good and timely quote..

" "I have not seen an inch of my own coverage," he said."

Well, I have and it's been grotesque- as usual.
Blow Dry Brian has never been fair or balanced- his hyperbole is only matched by his hubris.
His main sources are " many say " and " there are those that say. "
Remember Blow Dry said that George Washington was a terrorist,
when trashing Pat Robertson, BDB said that Robertson had advocated that " the United States assassinate " another " world leader. " Apparently BDB thinks the US routinely assassinates world leaders.
In the spring of 04, when BDB was acting as John Kerry's de facto campaign manager, he breathlessly reported on the horrendous US economy and said that " many " were saying the US was in the worst economy since Herbert Hoover.
And as Williams continued to talk about the dismal US economy-he showed black and white footage of people on bread lines in the 30's.
Just in case viewers did not get his message -wink, wink.

I forgot clueless, selfish, and frequently drug-addicted.

You could have actually put forth reasoned arguments to support your position. Instead, you babble an uninformed, puerile, and utterly speculative attempt at an insult. This clearly shows you have no clue what you are talking about.

I see stuff like this all the time on liberal nitwit sites (DU has the same macabre attraction as the average roadside wreck). It's expected there. It really annoys me when people here behave in the same way. Grow up.

In some states, independents can vote in both primaries. In those states, some choose to remain independent. The reason I know is that some of my relatives do just that. To attempt to keep the worst of the worst out.

There is a certain attraction for voting for the most competent republican candidate in the primaries while also voting for the biggest of the leftist moon bat nut cakes in the democrat primaries. It helps keeps the republican candidates republican, and keep the democrat candidates unemployed.

Salon's Reporters Gone Wild

I would like to ask all those reporters questions now since we really know what went on down there. We now know who shut down the bridges, who didn't use the busses they had, who had to wait 24 hours to make a decision and who blocked relief from coming in. The MSM hasn't taken off the gloves for everyone. If Brian Williams wants to prove us wrong he can question the governor, mayor and the rest of the elected people down there. He won't and none of the others will either. All he is doing is trying to con uninformed viewers into thinking they are hard hitting and have no bias.

Establishing one's maturity level would not change the fact that independents are indecisive, apathetic, clueless, selfish, or frequently drug-addicted.

People have all the tools they need to politically define themselves, and an engaged individual would only remain independent for such reasons as I have stated.

the end of an unusual four-year period of deference to people in power.

Hey, these journalists in whatever medium they work - broadcast or print or internet - themselves wield considerable power, since they control (or like to imagine that they control) the content of news broadcasts every minute of every day.

It's obvious that these "emperor" journalists have no clothes. Good God, it's going to be fun to expose them to the elements! Move to the rear, Dan Rather, Jayson Blair, et al., apparently a lot of your colleagues want to join you! Schools of journalism have really got to accept more intellectual diversity; a healthy infusion of conservative thought would add 20 or more points to the average IQ score of journalism students!

Gee, I'm glad the days of all that deference to George Bush and his administration are over.

Now we are going to see the proper, dignified press take off the gloves and act like, let me see:

a bunch of immature, biased, incompetent, hyping, partisan journalists.

Wow, it will seem so, I don't know, vaguely familiar.

Time for the SALON STOCK DEATHWATCH again: Maybe some monied Rats will bail them out of bankruptcy once again...

You can make a LOT of money off salon.com because the socialists will never let the thing die. When the stock drops down to around a penny and is again in danger of being de-listed, buy up a bunch of shares. Then, when some leftist socialist sugar daddy again bails them out and the stock temporarily rises above 10¢ a share, sell.

Sure, you're dealing in penny stocks, but a ten to one gain in pennies is still a ten to one gain. And don't let the natural distaste for buying into a scumbag operation like salon.com stop you. Think of it as liberating poor oppressed dollars from the clutches of salon's socialist backers.

Yeah, more cynicism, that's the ticket! You been losing audience for years because you are so resolutely optimistic, upbeat, always looking on the bright side. Everyone knows that.

You've just reiterated your original statement and added more insults. That is not a rational arguement.

You still need to support your position. You haven't, because you can't. You just keep repeating your flawed premise.

an engaged individual would only remain independent for such reasons as I have stated.

"Only"? Prove it. Give evidence, examples, and facts.

I seriously doubt you can because your assertion is false and indefensible.
