If I were a Guardsman in the situation that they are in, I would not want to be hearing close or distant gunfire of a random nature from anyone, including the local LEO's.

That's a really good point.

Better yet is if the "officials" were so worried about disease because of bodies would this type of action make it worse?
I have no faith in the local LE.

It may be expensive, but there will be a severe
backlash if it turns out to be true. A lot of
People love their pets, more tha they do most
other humans.

That's not humane. That's just stupid.

"The local sheriff is the one who is shooting the dogs."

Where do the movie stereotypes of the fat bully sheriff in the mirrored sunglasses (and the paternalistic corrupt politician in the white suit) come from but from down in them parts of the country.

Well, of all the bad decision to come out of NO, this is not one of them. While there are certainly some issues with family pets that could have been taken out with the families, these animals are probably to far gone to help. And who is going to help them? There are already too many animals in pounds and shelters that nobody wants. Why would any one want to add more on top of it?

Just my opinion, and I'm not trolling to get folks mad or upset.

BTW, where are those PETA whackos? One of the few times they could be really useful and they screw it up, again.

The humans have all been accounted for. Those who remain have been asked numerous times to evacuate. There are now teams identifying the dead, and these are the ones who are picking up the animals who are left. It's not taking anything away from the living.

There is no excuse for just shooting these animals because the navy has set up a kennel where they can be taken.

I for one don't want ONE SINGLE Federal worker risking their life for a DOG or a CAT. Volunteers from the SPCA and other pet loving organizations who wish to do so are welcome but not our Troops.

The last thing needed in the 90000 square miles of devastation are roving packs of rabies infested wild dogs/cats foraging on whatever, including undiscovered corpses.

And the first thing I would want in that situation is my "Self-Mobile Personal Detection Unit" otherwise known as a 125# Great Pyrenees. He watches over me, my family and my stuff (including guns and horses). If he doesn't like you, neither do I.

Our local news in Central Fla. showed a lot of rescued dogs on a vehicle. I can't believe they are shooting them!

Yeah, but don't you think it would be a real bad idea to have a bunch of different groups of people running around down there trying to rescue "pets". And then themselves having to be rescued or taken care of when injured?

Bad idea IMO.

"Is there something in the water down there that makes state and local officials nuts? Nobody seems to have a lick of plain common sense."

Well . . . we ARE talking about Southern Louisiana. My expectations for public officials are so low that one that is merely mildly incompetant would be a ten.

Yes. It is called liberalism.

If they have no problem with aborting babies, why should killing dogs bother them?
Another example of Democratic leadership.
Someone needs to alert D.U. to this, it's enough to make them vote conservative.
