There's an awful lot of people who share this man's view. It's just sad. They have no regard for the value of man's best friend.

I really loathe people like this. They need to be shot and killed.

I called the Comment Office at the White House yesterday and told them they needed to send in the military to rescue these animals.

Get them away from the Sheriff!

If they can't get them all out of there, his description of being humane, is indeed humane, if you should start seeing them in a week or so.

I was surfing and some MSM idjit type said, well at least with the flood they have plenty of water to drink. Dogs forced to drink salt water is a horrible way for them to die.

Lake Pontchartrain is a salt water estuary open to the Gulf of Mexico. There is some fresh water where the rivers flow into it, but for the most part the salinity is at least 1/2 of the gulf. It is even subject to a reduced ebb and flow of the tides.

I understand what you're saying, Nov3, about the gun confiscation.

But as a post-2000 member, and a laywer who has a deep respect and love for the Constitution, and a person who has argued here in favor of respecting the law even when it goes against what I want (e.g., Terri Schiavo), I would argue that as FR's membership has increased, it has more fully represented the spectrum of conservative beliefs.

There are a lot of us that joined FR as soon as we found out about it, especially after lurking for a while. I don't think that the year of the sign-up necessarily diminishes the validity of the post.

But then, I think maybe you'd agree with me on that last point. ;)

Interesting point... if the National Guard heard the shots (only 3 blocks away) why weren't they investigating the source of the gunfire?

I see your point and I am sorry I left that off.
What is the point of getting them to a shelter if they are going to die anyway? How many people are not going to say it is their animal because they can't care for them? Why bother trying to house them if no one will claim them? Why bother trying to put them up in a shelter for the next six months? It is proven that animals do go mad after living in a confined space after a long period of time. This is why I personally don't have a problem with shelters that have to put down animals. It is better for the animal to be put down humanely rather than to continue to suffer.
One of the problems I have with this whole thing is I read the posts here and on other sites and read about people wanting to take in some of these animals. Some people need to know their animals are being cared for in a safe place. But some of the animals don't belong to anyone. Just like the animals in their local shelters. What about people going and donating their time to help walk the dogs? What if a third of these people who have posted chose to help cats and dogs in shelters in their neighborhood? What if these people decided to help a dog become socialized so they don't get returned? What if people decided to skip eating out once a month and give the money to their local shelter? I have a problem because some of these people give no thought to their local dog and cat rescue groups but are concerned about these animals. What makes these animals any different from the ones in their own backyards? Now, I have heard people complaining about the war because they feel we should be taking care of our own. I think the same rule applies to the critters out there. Sort of the forest through the trees concept.
The problem I have with this particular sherriff is there is a chance for some of these animals. What happens after he shoots them? Do they just lay on the ground or is someone going to dispose of the body? But that is why there are people out there trying to save them. That is why there are people making donations to the LSU Vet school and organizations like Noah's Wish. Because there is still a chance for them. Obviously there is or the Guard wouldn't be catching some while others are killing them.

It's one thing to shoot a dog that is attacking you - such as the pit bull mix the PD guy talked about. It's another thing altogether to shoot a dog in "cold blood". This guy was doing it for sport - otherwise why would they have made a big deal about the reporters following them? Did they ask them upon whose orders they were carrying out the "extermination" and which statute the order was based on? Sorry I forgot... reporters don't even think to ask the important questions anymore.

It is pretty much a general statement now. There are exceptions but they get fewer as the years go on.

But shooting them as a matter of course, as a matter of policy, when a lot of them can be rescued, is needless and wrong.
