Just shut up..............we don't need your condescension today.
There is no reason on God's earth that these animals had to be shot.
Some of my friends are currently in LO trying to help these animals. They tell me there is a shortage of BOATS and that has been their major problem.
I intend to adopt some of these animals if their owners can't be found.

Do you seriously think these animals will be saved?? Are you serious?? Are you that CLUELESS??

The majority of those dogs were dead when the owners were forced out and not allowed to return. Don't get mad at me - blame the mayor

The sheriff is shooting the pets because he enjoys it

His rationalization is it is more 'humane'...

YES! YES! YES!

Well, pardon us for not seeing things in exactly the same way you do. Because, of course, your take on the situation is the only right one. /sarcasm

Tell me - What did you think was going to happen to the pets when the owners were forced out?

BTW I like your C.S.Lewis quotes

I agree with you. More people would evacuate to shelters BEFORE the storm if they are allowed to bring their pets.

I would have evacuated with my cat before the storm and gone to a relative's house, but if I had stayed behind, when rescuers came to get me I would have stuffed my cat in a backpack and smuggled her on the boat/helicopter. If someone noticed the loud yowling, I would have said it was just my stomach growling from being so hungry, and nothing would hit the spot so well as a can of tuna. :-)

But you're right, after a couple of weeks, these strays are going to be in some bad shape. And I would rather shoot a suffering dog or cat than watch it die of dehydration or poison from contaminated water when there aren't any vet facilities close by. But shooting them indiscriminately as a matter of course is a different matter altogether.

I don't think he really cares whether we agree or not... the more people he flames, the more he can say he's ~doing something~ about the problem. Flaming people is activism, you see.

I'm ignoring it. They want to hog all the posts and pull them away from the topic of the animals.

Nothing is worse than being invisible :)

Arizona Carolyn asks: "Please explain why 'post 2000' freepers are any less important than pre '2000'?

Nov3 answers: "Because they don't have a CLUE what the constitution is and readily support ignoring and trashing it when it suits their means. (As a general rule that is.)"

Boy oh boy, it's a good thing most pre-2000 Freepers don't share your opinions.

Maybe your answer should have been..."because we old f-rts think we're waaaay better than you because you didn't find FR before we did."...."and we're more patriotic and we love our country more and we're .....well, we're just better than you, that's all"

How can this surprise anybody here?
First they take your guns. Then you’re off to the “dome camp lifestyle” with a government debit card.
Your dog you left behind is shot. Your home is then looted by the same people who had you removed as “abandoned property”.
Walmart was just a taste to the mayor and his thugs the NOPD.
Where are the feds on this?
I know the state is overloaded with a hormone inbalance.

I grieve for the loss of possessions and especially for the loss of human life in this storm...However I think of my little dog who was abandoned in a snow storm in Manhattan by... a person....Now my little dog has every right to hate people after and to act inappropriately after someone tried to kill him..but...
My dog has never....Looted a store during a hurricanes devastation..never shot at a rescue helicopter..never robbed the helpless..never pushed his way to the front of a line to make the less able wait..never raped or bullied or threatened or pillaged...he does not scream when he does not get his own way and appreciates everything that he is given. He loves all people no matter what sex, color, culture, size, age or socioeconomic status..He does not even care about political affiliation..(perhaps here he is wrong !!) I wonder who is the most civilized!!!
I write this to say that we must rescue people first but we must also consider our animal friends as well.If we dont we may lose a shining example of true love, affection, and fidelity...and I believe we need those virtues in the world today..

Of course I knew many thousands would be drowned and stranded, which is why I believe more provision should be made for petowners before the storms hit. More people will evacuate to shelters if they can take their pets with them, or if there at least more safe facilities for them to bring them, if they have to be separated. Petowners are a very large constituency. And during search and recovery, people who stay behind with their animals should be allowed to bring them with them. I wouldn't object to a policy that allowed for non-petowners and people in immediate danger to be rescued first, then the petowners. Cities and counties should plan for hurricanes and other disasters by designating more pet-friendly shelters, and maybe even pet-only shelters. It would save a lot of heartache and heartbreak down the road.

We had a major flood up here a few years ago, you know. I know what happens to the animals. But shooting them as a matter of course, as a matter of policy, when a lot of them can be rescued, is needless and wrong.

(BTW, C.S. Lewis is the man!)

Yes--it is unbelievable....they should of let the people take their pets. If people have a Pet taxi ..then what is the problem? Cats are easy if you stick a small litter box in the pet taxi's...and just let the dogs use the men's room....I'm sure no one will know the difference.
