What does the 1st amendment have to do with photographing and showing dead bodies? I would say about as much as the 2nd amendment has to do with the right to own guns.

I know the show I watch on A&E is called The First 48. They are following detectives from when they receive a call about a homocide until they pass through the first 48 hours after that call. There is no way the "participants" in that show give prior consent.
I fall on the side it should be documented, by someone. Whether it is the local officials or media (which I lean toward because of the incompetence of the local officials in some areas up to this point). But, I agree that if anything about the body or location of where it is being retrieved from could, even remotely, give away the identity, it should not be shown.

CNN did show a dead body last night -- the picture was somewhat obscured, although I do not believe that the reason was to obscure the identity of the victim but rather the method of death -- there was blood on the ground, although it was pixellated -- although if you only listened, you would not know whether it was a stabbing/shooting versus, say, collapse from lack of food/water/medicine.
Neither do I know if the authorities had placed this person on the official casualty list (CNN may have said last night -- I wasn't paying that close attention).

Please cite the paragraph where the words "photograph", "video", and "publish" are. I can only find the words "press" and "speach".

Here's the full version Squantos. I keep it on my home page. Feel free to use it anytime. I'm working on some others tonight and they should be on my homepage by tomorrow.

I think that press covers the form that it is disseminated.

Freedom of the press is sacrosanct.
Use of your own private property is not.
See how it works?

Not to be argumentative, but the press at that time consisted of printing words. There have been subsequent rulings on the national and local levels with respect to decency, pornography, and specifically to the desecration of a corpse. I am not arguing that there should be no independent documentation of the recovery effort. I am stating that it should not be broadcast, or cablecast, "live". Even with v-chip technology, and verbal warnings, these images would be transmitted (and broadcast) via facilities that are federally funded and regulated.

Please cite the paragraph where the words "photograph", "video", and "publish" are. I can only find the words "press" and "speach". Not there.
Please site the words "gun", "rifle", "pistol" in the 2nd Amendment.

They equate it to showing the soldiers coffins from Iraq so they can blame Bush. They think we are stupid.

appropriate for that crowd. The group of gloom and doom. Dark and sinister. Lacking in sensitivity and all that is decent.

In an earlier time people who wanted to take pictures of dead hurricane victims were shot ~ just as if they were looters.

"I think you hit on a good point. Such as several reports about a 7yo girl killed at the Superdome, then the NOPD reports yesterday that no dead children were found there."
Of course there weren't....
Earlier stories had reported that the 14 year old and the 7 year old were White.
