Editorial: Why take time to rally Parker again?
Thursday, September 8, 2005
The staff of the Lexington Minuteman fully supports freedom of speech, the right to assemble and the right for everyone to have their own opinions.
But there is a time and place for everything.
This week, the time was neither the time for protesting the schools, nor supporting or opposing David Parker. This week it was for supporting those who have much bigger problems in this lifetime: the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
It may not have hit here physically. Though gasoline prices have skyrocketed, we still have streets paved with concrete, not water. We have houses to live in, schools to attend and lives to lead.
Those hit by Katrina have none of that. There are those helping out in Lexington: Judith Jameson is collecting items for children and adults who will be staying at Otis Air Force Base (story, Page 1), various lemonade stands have been seen around town from the bike path in the Center to the path's intersection with Seasons Four. Even the Battle Green Inn is pitching in offering rooms to those affected.
With all this devastation in the country, why then, did folks find it necessary to "rally" for and against what has already been rallied, argued, debated several times?
At least this week, keep in mind there is a bigger picture than Lexington.
Because as of the night of the rally, David Parker was (and still now remains) BANNED from ALL Lexington Public School property.
He was not able to attend his son's first day of first grade! The Lexington schools have trampled on his rights and issued a (most likely illegal) restraining order barring him from setting foot on any school property. He cannot attend any school functions at his son's school, he cannot represent his point of view at school committee meetings, he cannot VOTE!
Lexington Massachusetts, birthplace of new tyranny.

for more information and to support the Parkers.
Their Lexington Minutemen tag is pretty ironic.
Please help make sure all the proper keywords are added to the Parker threads. Thanks.
I'll ping it out in a while.
And I shamefacedly admit I have been very lax on adding keywords, I'll try to remember to do it!
Thanks for the alert.
Ditto what lj said!!
That is the exact statement made by many on the other side, the ones who talk about "inclusive" schools and "welcoming all children" (see the article about the rally). These are PUBLIC schools that are financed by TAXPAYER dollars (including David Parker's). What the rest of the country doesn't realize is that this is a historic occasion where on the hallowed grounds of Lexington, MA, birthplace of American liberty, new patriots are taking a stand against this new tyranny foisted on parents and kids by those who would use the schools to foist their own views on everyone. All David Parker asked for was the notification and option to shield his child from discussions of sexuality, which just so happens to be the law. Not everyone can home school or put their kids in private school. More than that, people need to fight back, for their kids sakes, and for ALL kids. There are so many uninformed people on the sidelines that take for truth what they read in the papers or see/hear in the media.
We must fight for our rights:
help support the fight! Or it will be on your doorstep next.
I believe he feels that leaving will not fix or bring much needed attention to the problem. His child would be safe, but what about all the others whose parents may not know.
You can see interviews with David Parker on numerous sites. He's been on Fox multiple times and on the local news. He's the model of reasonableness and moderation in his demeanor and behavior. There isn't any question about his behavior being out of line in the least. That's what makes the other side's behavior even more egregious in comparison. All he's doing is taking a principled stand and asking respectfully, but firmly, that his rights as a parent and citizen be honored.
Homosexual Agenda Ping.
More on David Parker and his shameful treatment at the hands of knaves in Massachusetts. Keep you eyes on this issue. We'll be seeing more of this.
Freepmail me AND DirtyHarryY2K if you want on/off this pinglist.
David Parker should get an attorney who will sue on behalf of his child. His/Her rights are being violated.
That's just it...the school wouldn't agree to that. Discussing 'families' is not discussing sexuality and you, the parent, cannot opt out your child unless the discussion is about sexuality...the discussion of which they say doesn't begin till the 5th grade...
The State will educate your child. You do not know what is best for your child. Only the State can properly determine what your child should know to be a productive member of the Communi/Party.

I was so pissed about what I experienced in the schools in the town that I grew up in that I ran for school committee when I was in my late '20s. I used the soapbox to tell parents what really happens in school. The only other thing I talked about was vouchers. Of course, vouchers are unconstitutional in Massachusetts, but the local newspapers never figured that out.
When our kids came along, we moved out of town 8-)
Didn't matter anyway though because we decided from the beginning to homeschool.
The situation is close to hopeless. The only way to break the teacher union/socialist/pervert deathgrip on gov't schooling is vouchers.
