Georgetown police shot and killed a dog following a violent altercation Sunday morning.
Police were sent to 909 N. Congdon St. about 8:30 a.m. Sunday where they saw a 41-year-old woman limping outside the house. She was covered in blood and had cuts on her legs and hand.
The woman said she was mauled by a rottweiler belonging to her friend, 54-year-old Phillip Gibbs. He was detained as officers tried to sort out what had happened.
The woman, according to the report, said she came home with some beer, but Gibbs got mad because she did not have any crack cocaine. She said during the argument she went to a bedroom to collect her belongings so she could leave and when she walked into the living room Gibbs ordered the rottweiler to attack.
She grabbed a knife and tried to stab the dog, but it continued to bite her. She said at one point Gibbs pushed the dog closer to her head.
The woman said as she was trying to defend herself with the knife, she missed and stabbed herself in the leg several times.
After EMS arrived to treat the woman for her injuries, police went inside the house to retrieve the dog from a bedroom near the area where the attack occurred.
Officer Kyle Walton, in his report, stated he could see the large black and brown dog in the bedroom because the door was partially open. He said the animal appeared to have a back injury so he requested the Humane Society to respond to quarantine the dog.
Once Humane Society personnel arrived, the dog was shot with a tranquilizer dart. It had no effect on the animal except to make it mad. About 10 minutes later another dart was used, but the dog still did not seem affected, so a few minutes later another officer tried to retain the animal with a catch stick.
The dog, which had stab wounds on its back, fought against the efforts and started dragging the officer around the room.
The Humane Society officer used a needle to administer a third dose of tranquilizer but the dog still would not calm down.
Walton said because the dog had severely injured the woman and was still out of control after three tranquilizer attempts, he decided the dog had to be killed.
He said he ordered Officer Jon Tisdale to shoot the dog, which he did, but the dog did not die and was trying to get up, so he was shot in the neck a second time.
Because the dog was still alive after the second shot, Walton requested the Humane Society to administer a drug to stop the animals suffering but that was also unsuccessful.
Tisdale, upon Waltons order, then shot the dog in the head. That shot killed the animal.
Gibbs was placed under arrest for assault and battery with intent to kill. After being placed in handcuffs, he started complaining about having chest pains, so he was taken to the hospital to be checked out before he was transported to jail. He was placed under a $7,500 surety bond.
I hope they throw the book at this guy.
Too
I read this and wonder why anybody would want to legalize those drugs and end the war on drugs.
My thoughts exactly. Exactly. Too.
:^)
Good Lord!!! I wonder if the dog got the crack cocaine!!
LOL!!!
Ah...hadn't thought of that.
No kidding.

It's the usual scenario: police arrive to find one person bruised and bleeding and the other angry and uncooperative. The police try to convince Bill to press charges, but he says he just fell down and that it's nothing.
One of the sidesplittingest bits of TV I've seen in my life.
Can't drink no beer without no crack, fool.
Sounds like the dog was on crack.
I can see how that would come to mind.
That's what I was thinking.

I hope she learned from this. Next time bring home the cocaine also.
Are you talking about the drugs they were using on the dog? Those seem to be the only drugs involved here. They don't seem to be very effective. Maybe they should "legalize" stronger drugs and issue better firearms to the officers.
"I read this and wonder why anybody would want to legalize those drugs and end the war on drugs."
Possibly because if the stuff is legalized and the price falls to reasonable market levels, instead of the artificially high prices currently in effect, the users will either adapt, or kill themselves off. Either way, the rest of us win.
I would make it a capital offense to drive under the influence, though.
Sounds like more than just the dog needed shooting.
