Proportionally spaced fonts(The Post that started it all)
Free Republic | Sept 8 2004 | Buckhead

Posted on 09/09/2005 5:42:06 AM PDT by Dog

Howlin, every single one of these memos to file is in a proportionally spaced font, probably Palatino or Times New Roman.

In 1972 people used typewriters for this sort of thing, and typewriters used monospaced fonts.

The use of proportionally spaced fonts did not come into common use for office memos until the introduction of laser printers, word processing software, and personal computers. They were not widespread until the mid to late 90's. Before then, you needed typesetting equipment, and that wasn't used for personal memos to file. Even the Wang systems that were dominant in the mid 80's used monospaced fonts.

I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old.

This should be pursued aggressively.

Notice the time. Just a few seconds before midnight. That is so appropriate! The midnight hour! the end of the MSM dominance, once and for all!..................

But we must not forget this one:

WE NEED TO SEE THOSE MEMOS AGAIN!

They are not in the style that we used when I came in to the USAF. They looked like the style and format we started using about 12 years ago (1992). Our signature blocks were left justified, now they are rigth of center...like the ones they just showed.

Can we get a copy of those memos?

Dog,

Thanks for posting this.

If Buckhead gets to San Francisco, there's a free adult beverage waiting for him at the Washington Square Bar and Grill.

TankerKC was about the format of the memo's, and it was Buckhead that showed the memo's were fake due to their formatting using a computer, not the page's format, which would have been difficult to the time frame of the changeover to the format used in the memo's.

Of course, but if you peruse the original thread, you will see that several people were on the trail. Not at all to take away from Buckhead and his expertise that is widely credited as the definitive post that rocked SeeBS. I just wanted to be sure that TankerKC's contribution didn't get lost down the memory hole. Buckhead was the first "expert" but what is significant about Tanker's comment is that it occurred real-time during the flow of the show; it was an almost instantaneous exclamation and serves to illustrate why a Free Republic live thread is the place to be when watching any major event unfolding.

I should also mention Howlin's role in keeping the small fire started by TankerKC burning, setting the stage for Buckhead's now famous post.

Also interesting is to see some of the comments about how pursuing the forgery angle would be a dead end :) Healthy skepticism to be sure, but I'll bet they wish they could hide those posts!

For those interested in a trip down memory lane, here is a great post that has the timeline and the links to the many threads and posts now a part of history: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1212342/posts?page=4#4
