The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett made another appearance on the program this evening, following up on his blockbuster story yesterday. Among other things, Garrett got confirmation --on camera-- of the Louisian State department of Homeland Security's blocking of the delivery of relief supplies to the Superdome and the Convention Center. In addition, Garrett received confirmation from senior Salvation Army officials in Washington, D.C. that the Salvation Army's efforts at supplying the evacuees were also repeatedly blocked. Radioblogger will have the transcript up later, but the key takeaway was when I asked Garrett if characterizing Louisian's preparation for the storm as "abysmal" was accurate and he confirmed that indeed it was. Read the whole thing.
I also asked Garrett why no other network is on this story. He can't offer an answer for that, event hough he points out that this isn't a hard story to get, and Fox News needn't be credited. All CNN has to do (or MSNBC or CBS) is call the Red Cross and get a camera over there.
Blanco has the obligation to maintain civil order, and if she senses that her forces are inadequate to do that, she has a moral and civil duty to call for help.
The local authorities called for help in both the Detroit riots of 1967, and the more recent LA riots. The feds stepped because they were asked. I read somewhere that the last time the Insurrection Act was used without a request from the governor was 1861.
I will say this is one time when having Trent Lott as their Senator will serve Mississippi well. he'll make sure they receive attention, otherwise LA would suck it all up. I hop Alabama doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
Great scenario, but for some unknown reason Dubya has NEVER defended himself from even the most ludicrous charges since he's been President.
I would be interested to know how the Red Cross and the Salvation Army fared in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. Were they able to get in as soon as it was clear to do so? Was there any obstructions from any level of government? It would be interesting to compare the time lines to what happened in Louisiana.
It only succeeds in making him look like a dem kissup.
"Garrett received confirmation from senior Salvation Army officials in Washington, D.C. that

What you quote Zogby's numbers? Bah. Another doom and gloomer you seem to be.
Zogby thanks you for carrying his water.
Well anyway since you believe Zogby polls so much, interested in buying a bridge to Brooklyn.
Your marketing profile is prime for such a sale.
thank you very much!!
I turned Laura off today for the first time. I'm just listening to Rush and reading FreeRepublic now. Although Quinn is good too.

I listened to her to the very end and heard her read an article written by Bob Novak so that she didn't have to take any more calls. She also acknowledged that she was getting angry emails...I just bet she was! I don't know that I will ever listen to her show again...I don't mind critism of this president and his administration when it is warranted but she is WRONG and she is dogpiling IMO and joining the dem senators, the MSM, every stupid pundit who has been salivating to "get" Bush and I think it is a betrayal on her part. Who is Quinn?
I hope it finally gets some real attention. Just watching H&C and it's still all about the President screwed up, though I liked Ann Coulter saying "we didn't even blame hurricanes on Clinton."
I don't think he will accept any more emails from me. I pissed him off.
Dang---you had to remind me...I forgot. I guess I always think of him from the War..but you are right,
he pretty much wimped out on that...and for a veteran, and a reporter from the war in Iraq...that is NOT GOOD!!!
Is she saying the Republicans own Rush?
Just curious.
You know what? People that aren't "owned by Republicans don't have to tell me they are not. Sycophants are easy to pick out. What people who say what she did mean is that they are worried about their reputations in the Beltway, and she is a part of the Beltway. To be "Independent" you have to bash the administration. You have to list how you trash the administration to PROVE you are your own person. But all you prove is that you aren't secure in conservatisim. You aren't secure in the Truth. You are pandering to critisism that you are a flunkie for Bush.
But, you know, that's fine. She won't ever be bigger then she is, as a result, but that's her choice. I only wish Tony aired here so I could listen to him instead in the morning. As it is she is permanently off my schedule.
Speaking of Bob Novak... what is the latest on his suspension at CNN?
Newt may very well be campaigning for President in 2008. So he has to knock around the President as to look "better than Bush."

I will not vote in the primaries for any candidiate that bashes President Bush to make points with the stupid MSM and that's what Newt is doing. Maybe we need to start a list of possible presidential candidates on "our side" (and I say that loosely) who are using this time of tragedy to score points with the MSM.
That's why we have to make sure the word get's out! Tell everyone we know the truth. Email them the links to those video reports in the earlier post. Pass them on to everyone we know! And tell them to tell everyone they know!
OMG-----They put that Jerry Doyle on here at night...
When he first started here, he was sort of okay...but in the last 6 months or so...he has gotten almost as bad as SAVAGE...he is an idiot!!!!
They will condemn all the property of the poor and sell it to their buddies. The whole corrupt lot will get very rich. And it will all be Bush's fault. /sarcasm
