The Red Cross has confirmed to Fox News Channel's Major Garrett that they had requested permission to take food and medical supplies to the Louisiana Superdome in the hours immediately after Hurricane Katrina's landfall. That request was denied by none other than Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco.
Garrett appeared on Hugh Hewitt's syndicated radio program this evening to discuss the shocking revelation.
MG: Well, the Red Cross, Hugh, had pre-positioned a literal vanguard of trucks with water, food, blankets and hygiene items. They're not really big into medical response items, but those are the three biggies that we saw people at the New Orleans Superdom, and the convention center, needing most accutely. And all of us in America, I think, reasonably asked ourselves, geez. You know, I watch hurricanes all the time. And I see correspondents standing among rubble and refugees and evacuaees. But I always either see that Red Cross or Salvation Army truck nearby. Why don't I see that? The Louisiana Department of Homeland Security is directly under the command and direction of Governor Kathleen Blanco. The same Kathleen Blanco who has whined and blamed the federal government from her perch in Baton Rouge throughout this entire crisis. The same Kathleen Blanco who has stared at cameras with deer-in-headlight-glazed eyes since Hurricane Katrina made landfall. The same Kathleen Blanco who, after being asked about federal help prior to landfall said, "No." The same Kathleen Blanco who rescinded Mayor Ray Nagin's order to completely evacuate the city due to dangerous conditions just today.HH: And the answer is?
MG: The answer is the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security, that is the state agency responsible for that state's homeland security, told the Red Cross explicitly, you cannot come.
HH: Now Major Garrett, on what day did they block the delivery? Do you know specifically?
MG: I am told by the Red Cross, immediately after the storm passed.
Was Kathleen Blanco's goal the death of as many of those in the Superdome as possible?
They're cowards.
It occurs to me that sending those cops to La Vegas is a pretty handy way to pay someone off and get them out of the way so that they can't be interviewed.
"This is probably the stupiest comment I've even seen at Free Republic. Democrat 101 - you need poor working class voters to be elected and you don't achieve this by killing them. Sheesh."
Tell that to Bill and President Clinton.
GOOD question!
Please. She is just one more in a long line of inept, callous, cold and stupid (take your pick).
There are people like this on every street corner and unfortunately some of them are in positions of authority.
Does she have reasons for her actions? Probably, but I am doubtful that mass murder is one of them. Covering her butt, I'll buy it. Plain stupidity, yep. It is a little hard to believe that both she AND the governor could both be so clueless.
Hey everybody,
You wanna hear my dream scenario?
Gov. Blanco is about to be sent to prison over this, so she decides to testify against Hillary, who put her up to all the shennanigans, so Bush would look bad.
Hillary has no defense and there is solid evidence against her.
She goes to prison and we all live happily ever after.
Oh yeah, and in a plea agreement, she testifies against Bill for something he did, and he goes to prison, too.
HEY, IT'S MY DREAM!!! If you don't like it, go have your own dream!
:-)
Genocide's a stretch, but if you said she and Nagin and some others acted with lethally criminal negligence before, during and after this storm, I wouldn't argue with you.
I have always thought, I would never have gone there for a shelter. NEVER. How tall is the structure, must be one of the highest buildings, easier for the wind to reach.
You have FReepmail that outlines the rest of my thoughts on Blanco (and they aren't very pretty).
For Nagin.... He is hoping that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas
The Mayor had better be getting him some men around him that he can trust. Blanco doesn't seem as though she really has his back. Continuously undermining his every move, at least it appears that way from today's move, in refusing to back his latest evacuation.
She already threw the Mayor over the side
The question is .. what will he do about it?
'Some liberals are claiming that President Bush intentionally neglected to aid the city of New Orleans in a timely manner..."
yet it's obvious with each new revelation America can barely hear under the radar because of the loud, screaming RATS- that it was democrats acually intentionally neglecting to aide the poor of New Orleans in a timely manner both before and after the hurricane.
While it may be a stretch to imply genocide, it is no more ludicrous than the charges being hurled at GWB.
It is, however, a testament to the shortsightedness of the liberal mind that they would endanger their solid voting block in such a way.....but then again, if NOLA is anything like Chicago, it really doesn't matter. Up here, they vote whether alive or dead, just not quite as often.
There is NO ONE who despises the practices and beliefs of the extremist Democrats more than I do. That includes the beliefs and practices of Kennedy, Kerry, the Clintons, Schumer, Reid, Pelosi--I should stop because my wrists are growing tired.
But to suggest WITHOUT proof--not speculation or CoasttoCoastAM-type suspicion--that Governor Blanco deliberately instituted a policy of genocide is, in my opinion, nothing less than heinous.
This is the same kind of double-speak, tinfoil hat thinking that we accuse the Democrats of being guilty of when they go off into some dark tunnel of speculation that they think passes for logical and serious thought.
I'm no fan of Blanco--I think she is a doofus First Class, but I've seen nothing to prove that she is a mass murderer.
This needs to have its own thread, if it doesn't already. Incredible.
