The Red Cross Blocked
The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett was just on my show extending the story he had just reported on Brit Hume's show: The Red Cross is confirming to Garrett that it had prepositioned water, food, blankets and hygiene products for delivery to the Superdome and the Convention Center in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, but were blocked from delivering those supplies by orders of the Louisiana state government, which did not want to attract people to the Superdome and/or Convention Center. Garrett has no paper trail yet, but will follow up on his verbal confirmation from sources at the highest levels of the Red Cross.
The transcript of the interview will be available at Radioblogger later this afternoon.
And here is a very interesting article from Septmber of 2004:
Debate continues over Superdome as potential hurricane shelter
Seems that the debate over using the Superdome goes back almost a year, and that no one in New Orleans thought it would be a great place in a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane.
Key graphs:
"If we were to lose power, if we were to lose plumbing facilities, if a storm were to hit and create flooding in the area; the Superdome would not be a desirable place to be," he said.
The American Red Cross admits it would not stay in town for a severe hurricane. Workers would offer supplies and training to the Dome but would then leave to ensure aid for the hurricane's aftermath.
Kay Wilkins, spokesperson for the American Red Cross, said, "While we're saying we;re going to move our volunteers and staff out of the risk area into areas where its safer for them to be it doesn't mean we're not going to be here ahead of time for others."
Mayor Nagin said the city has more than 80,000 people without transportation access, and when the next hurricane evacuation there will be thousands of people who will not, or cannot, leave, highlighting the city's urgency of finding the most suitable place for shelter.

The link that Drudge has up is currently timing out. Hmm, I wonder if this latest "Blanc-O bombshell" is being picked up by the lamestream at this late hour.

It is kinda strange..Bill O'Reilly, it was reported here on FR tonight, told his audience that he tried to contact the Louisianna guard to get a time line of their work there, when he was able to make contact he was told that they were NOT ALLOWED to talk to him, or anyone, because blanco has put a GAG ORDER on them.

" I'm going to take a leap: Was Kathleen Blanco attempting genocide?"
On Sunday, when they started herding the unwashed masses into the Super Doom, (not a typo), I went to my 90 year old grandmother's house and turned on the TV. I told her we were about to witness the biggest disaster the U.S. has ever seen. I mentioned to her that I knew she lived through the 'Great Depression' but this would be worse and happen faster.
Then I said I thought the administration in LA was herding the poor, sick, homeless, drug addicts and disabled into the Superdoom, (again, not a typo), to kill them so they didn't have to support them, and then would blame the deaths on Bush for cutting funding and sending troops to Iraq. The libs used them to get their votes, and now they were being sentenced to death, and would use their deaths to get reelected. Oh, and as a bonus, they get a bunch of our tax dollars to rebuild without the burden of caring for those listed above.
Sorry if there are those on this forum that don't like my thinking, but...
That is what I think.
I'm a Kentucky Hillbilly, (proudly stated), and I could have organized an evacuation from NO. This seem deliberate.

I guess it's the state's (Blanco's) decision to starve out the remaining people in NO.As just reported on O'Reilly, forcing out the people is apparently her strategy, and it contradicts the Mayor's wishes.

Meanwhile AFP has had as one of its main news stories today an article that is not only biased but actually blames "Federal Officials" for putting people in the convention center.
Federal officials faltered badly when they herded displaced New Orleans residents into a dangerously overcrowded convention center without adequate supplies or sanitation, critics said.

If there is anyone in Washington with a backbone there will be. They asked for it loudly. I think they are going to get it. They trapped themselves.

The explanation on the Red Cross site is not new; its been up for many days, probably since the end of last week.

Im not excusing your thinking...I thought the same
Think about it...if the storm had stayed on track and NO had the severity of destruction that MS took....just think about it....

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who believes Hillary is trying to protect Blanco - but I think it's because Hillary needs to protect the black vote. It's beginning to slip away and if the Gov and Mayor are found to be negligent .. it could swing a whole community over to the repubs (they love Gov Perry - and Houston).

Sounds like a Charlie Foxtrot on the part of the state officials, governor, etc.
If the Superdome was a stand and defend position, it should have been better equipped.
When the Red Cross leaves, I leave. But they do have to get the water out, and the longer people stay, the worse the sewage problem gets, and the more people will be sick.

How can Hillary and the Dems get away with that????
Just holding hearing on the federal mistakes and not the state & local ones?
Did she really call for that?
