Alligators stalk streets of New Orleans

08.09.05 6.20am

Alligators are stalking the flooded waters of New Orleans and rescuers fear that they will eat the bodies of Hurricane Katrina's victims.

Michael Rieger, of the federal emergency agency, said patrol boat crews had seen many alligators in the floodwaters.

Authorities have just started the operation to recover what could be thousands of bodies in the floodwaters, on the streets and trapped in homes.

Rieger said: "There are a lot of people who are never going to be found. There are a lot of alligators in the water, and alligators love that type of stuff."

I am worried that these gators will get sick swimming in such polluted waters. Where the hell is PETA?

Last night Fox was showing video of an approx. 8-foot shark (bull?) swimming down a street. And this morning an even larger one tried to make a snack out of a National Guardsman.

Did anyone catch that interview of the guy who rescued an elderly couple from their car in a ditch outside a flooded gator farm? You could still see a few big fellas watching and waiting.

Hey, even people eaten by alligators deserve to vote and get their monthly welfare checks.

Fortunately some other Guardsmen spotted the shark coming in and blew it away. I saw one brief interview with the officer commanding that unit, then they cut away to a press conference and I haven't heard anything since.

I know that there was a shark tank at the Aquarium. Could it have escaped from there?

Wow, that's really a surprise. Who would expect alligators to inhabit the waters in south Louisiana? Duh. Once again, lots of them news folks is not-so-bright. Do we give these a break because they're in New Zealand?

Possibly, but Lake Ponche-whatever is directly linked with the Gulf of Mexico and the bull shark is fully capable of living in both fresh and salt water.
