A lot of people are beginning to say that the whole "Geraldo rescues woman" story wasn't what it seems. One of them is Alessandra Stanley at The New York Times. She reports that Rivera "nudged" an Air Force worker out of the way so he could be shown on camera helping a woman in a wheelchair. But Rivera went on The O'Reilly Factor and showed videotape that proved that's not what happened. The NYT has not issued a retraction, and Rivera might sue.
Meanwhile, Stephen Elliott over at Salon says that Rivera made the rescued woman walk from the FOX news van to the heliport twice, so they could get the better shot for the camera. This hasn't been confirmed either.
What do you think? Are people being unfair to Geraldo in this situation?
I hope he does, and wins, BIG TIME.
This one could go either way.
I abhor both the NY Slimes and Geraldo, so it's very difficult to choose sides. Both do far more harm than good in the world.
Oh, please do, Geraldo. I would pay good money to see that fight!
No I saw the video. The NYT is completely wrong. Geraldo will take them to the cleaners if A) he actually does sue and B) the NYT's laywers don't push them to settle before the trial.
The Times clearly lied but that doesn't mean Geraldo will win.
Didn't he call the NYT a 'liberal rag' when this came out? Cracked me up. Looks like hanging out with Brit and the boys may be rubbing off on him a bit. :)
Iran vs Old Iraq...I'd have to flip a coin.
I read the bit on Salon. I bought it hook line and sinker because I don't respect "Jerry Rivers" too much. That would be bad if they made it up though.
Is anyone else getting sick of these "reporters-as-heros" stories? First Jerry Rivers, then Ted "Hairpiece" Koppel. What's next? Sean Penn donning scuba gear to go salvage some hobo's harmonica? Does anyone believe these stagey shenanigans?
Two words: Jason Blair.
It's not proper on FR but I can't help but like this guy. Maybe because he pisses everybody off. My kind a guy.
or .. it could be nothing more than a publicity stunt dreamed up by Geraldo (his style) and the NYT for a smokescreen when they need it.
geraldo admitted on OReilly that he was a "very liberal republican" --- I believe that is what we used to call a liberal democrat 20 years ago.
Whorealdo v. the NYT?
Hmmm. If only they could both lose...
He's definately a big grandstander and that turns people off. But sometimes he comes thru, like when went after OJ.
Heh heh heh heh!
Too bad I haven't seen any comment from him about the Salon piece which is more damning if true(I wouldn't believe any Salon report without corroboration)
Say, weren't you here yesterday as "Dubya Fluffer"?
