FOX News (Click here for MUST SEE Video) ^ | Brit Hume and Major Garrett

Posted on 09/07/2005 3:35:54 PM PDT by NickatNite2003

Just heard on FOX that Blanco refused to allow supplies to be brought to the stadium, "Because they wanted all those people to leave, and they didn't want to create a magnet to bring others there, by bringing in food and water!"""

For the good it would have done, probably.

I really wish I could remember...they were showing the pics of soldiers unloading helicopters and it was suggested that just "airdroppng" the supplies would have gotten it to the needy quicker.

Stupid doesn't seem to describe it, it is insane,

And doesn't James Witt run the State Homeland Security? I know he was paid $500 million to write their magnificent plan -- no-plan.

Major General Bennett C. Landreneau is the Adjutant General for Louisiana. He is responsible for the deployment and coordination of programs, policies and plans affecting the more than 14,000 members of the Louisiana Army and Air National Guard. He is also the Director of the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness

Yep. Add that name to the list. There are more than a few skunks at the state level.

I recall reading yet another name, not Landreneau and not the two that I cited. Could be my memory playing tricks - easily could be that ;-)

This was a hit job against W!! The RAT party has been shaking in their boots every time they think W might have another BULLHORN HERO MOMENT!! To me this was a hit job I suspect this is so. I think that behind the scenes, Blanco was being directed by dems to delay in an attempt to make President Bush look bad. There is no other explanation for Blanco's stupid performance. And these dems, in their desperation, are not thinking straight. They have badly miscalculated. They have tried to set a trap for W but it is they who are going to be caught in the trap.

And this means what? It's the MSM that is accusing FEMA of doing this.

I am not sure how this got out there - but it is a Homeland Security directive not FEMA but they do work together - right? If you think about 9/11 it makes sense, but not for a disaster the size of NOLA.

That was Major Garrett that had the segment with Brit not David Gregory.

Gregory was ranting at the press sec. this afternoon though.

I volunteer at a shelter. A woman told me today that they had water and MRE's the entire time. She evacuated on Fri. night.

Garrett elaborated to Hugh Hewitt that the time frame the Red Cross was turned down was immediately after the hurricane, Monday and/or Tuesday. The Red Cross was ready to go that early, they had pre-positioned materials. He says he thinks the Red Cross wants to get this out because they feel chagrined that they weren't on scene (implied: while people were dying of dehydration), and they feel somewhat sullied because they weren't seen doing what is their mission.

Garrett says at the very moment the mayor was screaming "Where's the food, where's the water?" it was being turned away by the state. There were areas that were difficult to reach because of the flood waters, but obviously some areas, such as the freeway overpass where Fox's Sheperd Smith was asking for water and help for the people there -- could have been reached. The RC couldn't have dealt with the lack of workable bathrooms, but food and water could have been addressed. Garrett's sources are just under the Red Cross President. He mentions the RC President briefly mentioned not being allowed into N.O. on O'Reilly's show last night, and he took the story and developed it today.

Hugh asked if there were any paper records of this communication. Garrett doesn't know but told Hugh it's a great question and he'll follow up on that.

The state also cited the dangerous water (height and toxicity) to the Red Cross, and the violence, but the main issue seems to have been they didn't want that "magnet" and wanted to encourage people to evacuate (my comment=so the state did that by starving and dehydrating people).

O'REILLY: But the Red Cross is running into some problems in the hurricane zone ... So, you had a hard time getting to the folks quickly. Why?

EVANS: Well, Bill, the specific issue is getting into New Orleans and I want your audience to know that the Red Cross was ready from literally the moment after the storm passed through to go into New Orleans. We were not allowed to go in by the Homeland Security - the state Homeland Security authorities. Red Cross is not a search and rescue organization, so we depend on the state and local authorities, you know, to make sure it's possible for us to get in and in this particular case, they did not want us to go in because they were trying to evacuate the city. In the, the course of the storm we evacuated, prior to its coming through, we evacuated, we sheltered in 90 shelters, hundreds, thousands of people from New Orleans, so we have been ready to go in. We're ready today to go in. We're waiting for the word that - that it's possible to go.

O'REILLY: OK. But I think a lot of it has to do with your security of your people. Um, in the first days after the hurricane, there was no security in the town.

EVANS: That's right.

O'REILLY: And if you had gone in, you know, the thugs with the AK-47s could have done damage, as they did to med-evac workers, to hospital workers, to doctors. We went all through that. Now it's under control.

EVANS: Right.

There is no gubernatorial recall in LA, and the legislature is solidly pro-Blanco. People there admire her and like having a "woman" governor.
