CNN Headline news reporter just stated that the military will not force folks from their homes. "Refusing to force Americans from their homes", said the noticeably British reporter. Further, they will not let residents deteriorate in their own homes. The military will continue to get water and food to those remaining in New Orleans, effectively undermining Nagin's mandatory evacuation order.
Personally I believe Posse Comatatus should be repealed, but as long as it's the law of the land it should be upheld.
Anybody that says the military should enforce order, I just ask them if Posse Comitatus should be considered dead, archaic law, and if they have any problem with the military doing the same thing on the border.
THIS President did everything right, as did the rest of his administration. Let the liberals and the MSM bellow and point fingers all they want. In the end, it will be known who screwed the pooch here, and it won't be pretty for the corrupt, inept, and incompetent state and local officials, all of whom just happen to be democrats.
Yeah, then they can go through private, undamaged (and now unprotected) homes "looking for citizens", and maybe valuable items to take into "police custody".
Wink wink.
ROTFLMAO.
That was one of my first thoughts as well. Right behind "more opportunities for looting, but without bothersome witnesses."
Loot first, then bulldoze.
I don't think its liberals who don't want to evacuate. Its people who don't want to leave their homes and pets to looters. I think these are the strong people of NO who don't want government help. They are used to taking care of themselves and their own. Their homes are ok. Maybe no utilities but some people aren't afraid of a challenge. There is a whole town in Mississippi that was flattened and no government aid or even rescue people came. They were totally alone. The townspeople started their own town from the rubble. They set up a soup kitchen, salvaged what food they could from the rubble, cleared off a place for the kids to play, even set up a church. They built shelters from the rubble and were cooking over campfires. My point is alot of people make the best of the resources they have left. Its amazing what folks can do when faced with a challenge. I think we have been overexposed to the weak in society these days so we don't realize what an indomitable spirit most Americans have. I guess life post- Katrina in NO is still better then alot of the rest of the world have it. The military said they will help them with food and water. I think that with all the help the evacuees are getting, the people who want to stay aren't asking for too much, just a little help till they can make it on their own again.
I'm with ya.
"He is an ass. Good for the military. I wondered if they would have to obey this absurd order. For which, what IS the point? It's a day late and a dollar short. OK, 20 days late and $1B short."
Your words should be a headline in every newspaper in America.
Carolyn
Thanks, leadpenny. You gave me my first good laugh of the morning!
I couldn't agree more! What I was referring to actually is the people who are insisting on staying in NOLA despite the conditions the city is experiencing. The difference with the situation you describe is that for people staying in NOLA there IS food and water and health care relatively nearby- these do not have to go into survival mode.
They insist on staying- and will divert further resources - National Guard will be taking food and water in to them.
Plus detailed instructions on how to use and a disclaimer in case of misuse.
What is wrong with people who choose to stay in their homes getting a little help from the government? We better all get used to doing for ourselves and stop depending on big brother to supply our every need. How in the world did people get by before electricity and a hospital on every corner. And they say a large part of NO wasn't even harmed. They still have water.
Does that qualify them for disaster relief assistance? Since they weren't directly hit?
I agree with you on that one...
1) Theyll all need public assistance, strung out across NO.
2) Theyll all be dumping their urine and crap in the streets.
3) Looters will be able to blend in, forcing more 24 hour guards at every facility.
Every neighborhood in New Orleans needs a total clean out, an only opened when infrastructure is restored and condemned buildings have been identified. Completed neighborhoods would then need 24 hour perimeter security to help keep looters from transiting to others.
No more PC BS, and that includes right wing PC of those who think they have a right to traverse all around a condemned city because they have a deed to property there somewhere. They'd just be getting in the way of disaster restoration.
