The governor procrastinates (Governor Blanco)
Washington Times ^ | Wednesday, September 7, 2005 | House Editorial

Posted on 09/07/2005 2:43:19 AM PDT by JohnHuang2

Before hurricane Katrina made landfall, Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco of Louisiana appears to have been more focused on securing federal funds for post-hurricane relief than ensuring that necessary troops were deployed to carry search and rescue missions, deliver food and water, and protect the citizens of Louisiana against marauding street thugs. President Bush had offered the governor federal aid, including additional troops. He declared Louisiana a disaster area before Katrina arrived. To the dismay of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, the governor told the president she wanted 24 hours to decide whether to accept the offer because Mr. Bush, as commander-in-chief, wanted control of the troops. Many of the governor's constituents died because of the delay. On her Internet Web site, Mrs. Blanco displays her letter to Mr. Bush dated Aug. 28, in which she requests various forms of federal funding for dealing with the expected aftermath of the storm, and estimates that she will need about $130 million. In the letter, Mrs. Blanco does not request federal troops, nor does she highlight any immediate needs. Clearly not enough troops were deployed. On Aug. 30, the day after the storm hit, only 4,700 National Guardsmen were mobilized in the state. Mrs. Blanco could have asked for a more substantial force under established emergency-mutual-assistance compacts, which enables governors of neighboring states to share resources in times of disaster. Of the 300,000 Guard troops in the United States, 6,500 are in Louisiana, and nearly half of those are deployed abroad, most of them in Iraq.

I read the list of Republican Senators on the Homeland Security Committee. I read and weep. I did not weep as much as Crybaby George who is on the committee also.

Yuck.

Many of the governor's constituents died because of the delay.....I think we found at least 24 hours that could have saved thousands of lives.....

What timing, I was just having a discussion with a co-worker about who did or didn’t do what and when. She insisted that the Governor couldn’t declare areas as disaster areas or do anything with Federal aid because of some Homeland Security red tape by W. She seems to be pretty sad about my finding.

Blanco has no useful purpose remaining so why not get the impeachment hearings started.
Louisiana state government is historically the most corrupt in the United States. They set the bar, I know I've dealt with them secondhand.

She only needs 130 mil? Send it to her and be done with her.

I am also concerned that there was a rush to commit troops without a clear exit strategy from what will most certainly become a quagmire, especially when the water lowers even further....

All I can say is that it's about time someone in the MSM told the truth.

Be prepared to see Blanco/Landrieu... along with 99.9% of the MSM walk away from this scam just like they did from the FORGED Bush memo's.

As investigations determine local and state incompatence you are going to hear a whole lot of democrats squeel like stuck pigs.
Mainly a democrat bastion, Lousiana is stocked by democrats. They will try to steer responsibility towards Mr. Bush.
In reality the Mayor and Governor are in way over their skill levels.

Don't forget, Bush should have also petitioned the UN for a Resolution and an Authorization for the Use of Force. This also appears to be a unilateral effort. Where are the troops of other countries ? (just continuing the spoof of course)
