Now that's interesting...Hillary in cover-up mode.

That or Mary Landru (sp?) called in some Big Time favors

I'm thinking it's a little of both

Look for Mary Landru to be put on the commission.

I don't agree. The facts are all on the Republicans' side, and now is not yet the time to fight the blame game.

Last night, our own Wolfstar posted a PICTORIAL thread about who did what and when.

You should print it out - it's stunning in it's revelations:

Before the hurricane, they seemed to only be concered with getting funding from the Feds:

Mary Landrieu and David Vitter - today sent a joint letter to President Bush, thanking him for his declaration of emergency in the state and his public comments urging residents to flee Hurricane Katrina. They also urged the president "respectfully but in the strongest possible terms to tour the devastated area as soon as practical,"

"But it is explained in the WP story previously posted here. She refused to place the troops under federal control because she bizarrely "suspected a political motive" was behind the request, and feared that once in control, the feds would "blame" the state for anything that went wrong. She obstructed the emergency relief effort for purely political reasons."

Which is of a piece with the rest of the politicization of the disaster from the get-go...

"To the dismay of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, the governor told the president she wanted 24 hours to decide whether to accept the offer because Mr. Bush, as commander-in-chief, wanted control of the troops. Many of the governor's constituents died because of the delay.....I think we found at least 24 hours that could have saved thousands of lives....."

"You have swallowed the MSM hype..no evidence of THOUSANDS OF DEATHS..this is pure Propaganda to make NO look even worse than it was..my guess less than 500 deaths in NO and most due to shootings and stabbings. sad but let us at FR be more accurate about the numbers please.."

I agree with you ... OTOH, it is accurate to say that Blanco's indecisions caused suffering and that LibDems are trying to pin blame on Bush when it should be directed elsewhere.

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in Ft. Worth and Lubbock tonight. My wife spent yesterday at Reunion Arena in Dallas handing out care packages and otherwise ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would greatly appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Stingray blogsite

"Before the hurricane, they seemed to only be concerned with getting funding from the Feds:"

Look the senators are drooling over the pork they will get to spend..news now says 100 billion for Hurricane relief
Charity yes - but how much do the tax payers have to give to support this city so full of corrupt politicos??

Some way must be found to control that money..maybe Kofi from the UN will lend the Senators a hand at spending the loot.

Look what they did with the 9-11 commission

Sure and look where it got the MSM/Dems...can you say Able Danger and an inept irrelevant investigation that was full of political dem hacks...and everyone knows it!!!

The 911 commission hurt the dems because of Ben VinNastyass and Durbin pulling their politic HACK tricks.

Major Garrett was on the Brit Hume show (and later on Hugh Hewitt) exposing their absolute incompetence. The Red Cross was on site with food, water and supplies and LA officials denied them access because they wanted the people to leave and if needs were being met, the area would become a magnet. Will the rest of the MSM tell us any of this?

This letter mentions that the money is not only needed for parishes in danger .... it also includes parishes that will accept evacuees. Perhaps Blanco was planning to avoid the evacuation and pocket that cash .... just like she must've reinforced the levees with hollow concrete.

That letter to Bush is dynomite!!!

"I have taken appropriate action under State law and directed the execution of the State Emergency Plan on August 26, 2005." - Blanco to Bush.
